Job description

We are the Diocese of Manchester, serving a vibrant, dynamic and creative community in the North-West of England. Our vision is to be a worshipping, growing, transforming Christian presence at the heart of every community. Our work is about building a culture of hope and an expectation of growth in our parishes, schools and chaplaincies. We're looking for talented and innovative people to bring fresh ideas, diversity and inspiration to help us achieve this.

Work on projects that make a difference

We're looking for someone with a proven track record of providing high level support in delivering funded projects, to guide the effective coordination, monitoring, and governance of the Diocese of Manchester's transformation portfolio. The role will play a key part in ensuring projects are delivered effectively, on time, and in line with agreed objectives, reporting requirements, and funding conditions.

Why this role is different
  • Every church is different, in terms of location, style and tradition
  • You'll be involved in all stages of project development from the first sparks of inspiration to successful project delivery
  • You'll have opportunity to share your knowledge and ideas to improve our processes and deliver our strategy
  • You'll work with people, not just systems, building relationships and making a tangible impact.
What you'll be doing

You'll be managing the governance processes for our project portfolio and developing bids for additional funding opportunities. You'll undertake time-limited projects and improvement initiatives as well as representing our Strategic Programme Board at meetings within the diocese and further afield. You'll also provide guidance and day-to-day supervision of a small team. We're keen to invest in our team and this role will provide various opportunities for learning and career development.

What we're looking for

An efficient project officer with excellent organisational skills and a good understanding of governance processes. A great collaborator with excellent influencing skills and a talent for progressing initiatives. A forward-thinking problem-solver who can engage both professionally and empathetically with our projects and communities. Experience of staff supervision would be a bonus but not essential.

What you'll get
  • Initial salary of £34,990 with opportunity to move to the top of the band
  • Strong commitment to professional development
  • A supportive team and clear opportunities for progression

This is more than an office-based role, it's a chance to work with diverse and interesting projects, develop your career, and be part of an organisation that values long-term stewardship, sustainability and community impact.

Interviews: Tuesday, 15 September 2026 at St John's House, 155-163 The Rock, Bury BL9 0ND.
