Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Projects Health & Safety Manager to lead and oversee all health and safety aspects across our project portfolio. This pivotal role ensures that all project activities are executed in compliance with legal, regulatory, and company standards, safeguarding the wellbeing of our people, contractors, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert health and safety leadership throughout project planning and delivery, fulfilling both Principal Designer and Principal Contractor duties.
  • Lead the Work Commencement Authority (WCA) process to review and approve project safety documentation.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are completed and reported.
  • Support and coach project teams and contractors through training, briefings, and engagement sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with H&S legislation, CDM Regulations, and client-specific standards.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and engineers to embed a proactive safety culture.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in H&S performance across projects.
  • Embed ISS safety initiatives such as SafeChoice and Near Hits, supporting UK&I HSEQ strategy delivery.
  • Travel occasionally nationwide as required for project delivery.
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
  • Experience in a senior Health & Safety role within a construction or facilities management environment.
  • NEBOSH Diploma (essential) and Chartered IOSH Membership (or working towards).
  • Strong understanding of UK H&S legislation, CDM Regulations, and ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001).
  • Experience managing Temporary Works and site-based safety controls.
  • Proven ability to influence, lead, and engage diverse project teams and stakeholders.
  • Skilled in incident investigation, risk assessment, and method statement development.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills.
  • Confident decision-maker with a proactive, hands-on approach.
  • Calm under pressure and passionate about maintaining the highest H&S standards.
  • Detail-focused, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement.
