Job summary

OHEAP Fire and Security is seeking a Fire Alarm Installation and Commissioning Engineer for a full-time, on-site role based in the East Midlands. You will deliver small works and project installations across fire and security systems, coordinating tasks to meet schedules and quality standards.

Day-to-day duties include site surveys, spec preparation, installation and commissioning, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering installation and commissioning work in fire and security.
• Knowledge of BS5839 and 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and use diagnostic tools on-site.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within Greater Nottingham area and beyond.
• Strong communication with customers, internal teams and suppliers.

We're Hiring: Fire Alarm Installation and Commissioning Engineer

The Projects and Small Works Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in the East Midlands. This role focuses on delivering small works and project installations across fire and security systems, including planning, coordinating, and executing engineering tasks to meet agreed timelines and quality standards.

Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting site surveys, preparing technical specifications, installing and commissioning equipment, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company procedures. The engineer collaborates with project managers, colleagues, and customers to provide clear updates, troubleshoot issues, and support handover and documentation.

The role also involves maintaining accurate records, adhering to health and safety requirements, and contributing to continuous improvement in project delivery.

What we're looking for:

• Experience in fire alarm installation, commissioning, fault finding and small works delivery
• Strong knowledge of BS5839 and 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
• Experience with cause & effect programming and system testing
• Excellent customer-facing and communication skills
• Gent programming knowledge is essential (Gent Basic Training minimum)
• Ability to work independently while supporting wider project delivery

Qualifications Needed

Strong Project Engineering and Electrical Engineering skills, with experience delivering installation and commissioning work in a relevant technical discipline.

Proficiency in Project Management and Project Planning, including scheduling, resource coordination, and documentation for small works and larger projects.

Effective Communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with customers, internal teams, and suppliers, both verbally and in writing.

Relevant technical qualifications or apprenticeship in electrical engineering, fire, or security systems; industry certifications (e.g., FIA, SSAIB, NSI) are beneficial.

Good knowledge of applicable standards and regulations in fire and security, with a strong focus on safety and compliance.

Ability to interpret technical drawings, use diagnostic tools, and solve problems on-site with minimal supervision.

Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to customer sites within the Greater Nottingham area and occasionally further afield.

Previous experience in a projects or small works engineering role within fire and security or a closely related field is an advantage.
