Role
SP Energy Networks (SPEN) plans to invest over £10 billion in the GB electricity grid over the next five years. A key project is the EGL4 HVDC link, delivered in joint venture with National Grid. We are seeking a Project Unit Manager to lead the Northern Onshore Cable works for this project, overseeing the full project lifecycle from development to decommissioning.
What you'll be doing
- Managing a team of direct and indirect staff, including performance management and HR processes.
- Ensuring delivery of key project outputs and meeting business targets.
- Promoting innovation, efficiencies, and value engineering across the project portfolio.
- Maintaining accurate capital expenditure forecasts and financial governance.
- Engaging with stakeholders and community liaison, ensuring compliance with Grantors Charter.
- Ensuring compliance with SPEN and JV management systems, including health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Delivering quality products in line with procedures and plans.
- Managing data entry, records, and lessons learned for continual improvement.
- Implementing best project management practices across the portfolio.
- Leading and developing staff effectively.
What you'll bring
- Engineering degree qualification.
- Experience managing multi-discipline teams.
- Experience in large-scale 132-400kV infrastructure projects or customer projects.
- Knowledge of the Electricity Transmission System.
- Understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation, including CDM.
- Commercial awareness related to contracts and procurement.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Problem-solving abilities.
Minimum Requirements
- Engineering qualification (BSc/BEng) and/or postgraduate qualification (MBA, MSc) or relevant experience.
- Experience in a programme management environment with multiple projects and disciplines.
- Experience managing complex contracts and multiple work programs.
