Job description

An opportunity has arisen within the Governance, Projects and Collaboration Team for a Project Support Assistant based at Central Headquarters on Eyre Street, Sheffield. The team are currently working to an Agile Working rota, with some days in the office and some working from home.

Project Support Assistant

Location: SYFR Headquarters, Eyre Street, Sheffield S1 3FG – Hybrid working

Hours: Full Time – 37 Hours per week (Flexi Time)

Contract: Fixed Term Contract – estimated until end of March 2027

Salary: £25,949 - £25,989 per annum (Grade 3) *To increase subject to national pay award negotiations for 2026.

To be considered for this role you will have previous experience of all aspects of administration work and the provision of a support service, with proven experience of working in an accurate efficient manner to tight deadlines.

You must possess the interpersonal skills to work with staff across the Service, as well have the ability to plan, prioritise and organise to deadlines. You will need to be confident to work with others in the team to support good project management.

The key duties will include:
  • Assist Project Managers with the preparation of their project documentation.
  • Monitor the progress of projects and initiatives, including the collation of progress reports from Project Managers and the preparation of regular programme updates to senior management and Fire and Rescue Authority Members.
  • Liaise with Project Managers to identify any issues and problems associated with projects and prompt the preparation of exception reports and other relevant updates.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Project Managers on all aspects of the SYFR project management methodology.

Closing date for applications is 9:00 hours on Monday 7 September

Interviews will be held week commencing 21 September.

New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. We offer 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days. We also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.

Most of our corporate roles offer flexi time and agile working, meaning people can vary their hours to suit their commitments outside of work as agreed with their line manager. Flexi time can be accrued with a potential of up to 13 days to be taken within a year.

All eligible corporate staff are auto-enrolled onto the Local Government Pension Scheme with personal contributions ranging from 5.5% to 12.5%. It is a defined benefit pension scheme that means pensions are based on salary and the length of paying into the scheme. 1/49th of your pensionable salary is added to your pot per year plus cost of living adjustments.
