You will play a key role in supporting and delivering high‑quality cost management and quantity surveying services across all sectors of the construction industry, including industrial, leisure, commercial offices, housing, regeneration and public sector programmes.

This role would suit someone newly qualified or with at least two years’ experience as a QS who is looking for a new challenge and a chance to accelerate their career. It’s an extremely exciting opportunity with huge scope for progression, exposure to new responsibilities and the chance to work closely with experienced cost managers who will support your development every step of the way. You’ll benefit from a structured training programme, hands‑on project involvement and the freedom to grow your technical and professional skillset at pace.

We pride ourselves on being a forward‑thinking, people‑centred consultancy, committed to social value and investing in our team through continuous development, genuine support and a collaborative, welcoming working culture.

About Us

Greyfriars Cost Management was created to provide expert cost consultancy, procurement, contract advice and full‑lifecycle cost management services extending the services offered by the already established Greyfriars Project Management. Since establishing our dedicated cost management division, we have grown steadily, delivering services across East Anglia for clients including Local Authorities, public sector organisations, developers and private clients.

We offer a hands‑on, transparent, “no surprises” approach to cost management, using the latest tools, benchmarking and industry best practice to provide reliable financial guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

The Day to Day
  • Preparing cost plans, estimates and feasibility studies at all RIBA work stages
  • Managing tender processes including Schedules of Works, Employer’s Requirements, and procurement advice
  • Reviewing and analysing contractor tender submissions, writing tender reports, and making recommendations to clients
  • Assessing valuations, monitoring budgets, and tracking project financial performance
  • Providing guidance on risk, change control, value engineering and lifecycle costing
  • Supporting clients with contract administration, NEC/JCT management and cost reporting
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects meet client expectations regarding cost, quality and programme
  • Attending site visits, progress meetings and technical sessions as required
The Candidate

This role would suit someone recently qualified or with 1–2 years’ post‑qualification experience who is looking for a new challenge, more responsibility, and the opportunity to grow and help develop a dynamic consultancy.

You will have a strong interest in cost management and construction and be eager to develop your expertise with support from experienced senior team members.

You will:

  • Have a minimum of 4+ years’ experience in the built environment within cost management, quantity surveying or commercial roles
  • Be working towards or already hold a relevant professional membership (MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent)
  • Have excellent analytical, numerical and communication skills
  • Be confident working with clients, contractors and project teams
  • Have an understanding of construction processes, procurement routes and contract administration
  • Be able to work from our Norwich Head Office and travel to sites within East Anglia and occasionally beyond.

Qualifications Required

  • Experience as Quantity Surveying & Cost Manager for 4+ years
  • Understanding of JCT contract forms (NEC experience also welcomed)
  • Ability to analyse data, produce reports and present findings clearly
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills
  • Good working knowledge of construction budgets, risk management, cashflows and change control processes
Highly Advantageous
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying
  • Experience working in delivering a wide range of projects from multiple sectors is ideal
  • Familiarity with industry tools such as CostX and BSI software
