A leading company in the UK rail sector is seeking an organised and detail-driven Project Planner to enhance their Rail Systems division. This role involves developing and maintaining project schedules, monitoring performance, and engaging collaboratively with project teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects. The ideal candidate will have prior planning experience and a strong foundation in project management principles.

We are looking for an organised and detail-driven Project Planner to support our Rail Systems division. Working closely with Project Managers and Engineers, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring detailed project schedules—ensuring resources are optimised and milestones are met.
This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact on project performance and delivery, with visibility across multiple key projects.
Develop and maintain fully resourced project schedules using structured planning techniques.
Prepare work breakdown structures (WBS) and produce accurate project plans.
Monitor project progress and provide performance updates to stakeholders.
Conduct weekly resource planning meetings and ensure accurate allocation of resources.
Identify scheduling risks and support mitigation planning in coordination with project teams.
Provide regular progress and deviation reports with actionable recommendations.
Produce monthly resource utilisation reports for the Senior Leadership Team.
Offer logistical planning support for the timely delivery of materials and products.
Champion continuous improvement in project planning practices and processes.
Prior experience in a Project Planning role within a project-based environment (preferably rail or engineering).
Solid understanding of project planning principles and tools (e.g., Gantt charts, WBS, resource planning).
Strong problem-solving ability and the initiative to work independently.
Highly organised with excellent time management and attention to detail.
Able to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
Proactive, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement in planning efficiency.
Total Weekly Hours: 37.5
Flexible Working: Between 07:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday
Core Hours:
Monday to Thursday: 09:00 – 16:00
Friday: 09:00 – 12:00
Lunch Break: 12:00 – 12:30 daily
