Our client is a large fabrication company servicing a variety of sectors from their busy North East facility. Due to recent projects won, they now require Project Planners for a 6-month period that could lead to further work.
The Role
- Generating, maintaining, and updating the plans for complex projects, especially where timelines are dictated by factors like customer demand and weather constraints.
- Scheduling and adapting when issues are identified for recovery while mitigating risk with built-in contingencies for delays using scheduling software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project).
- Coordinating live progress updates between customers, engineers, and other stakeholders through exceptional communication to manage expectations and changes.
- Accurately estimating timeframes, resource needs, and project constraints, and re-estimating when faced with unexpected disruptions.
- Adapting the plan quickly as new challenges arise, whether they come from client demands or weather-related disruptions.
- In a market with a skills shortage, with a realistic understanding of the availability of labour and materials, you’ll allocate resources accordingly.
- Producing reports on milestone slippage, critical path analysis, resource demand & availability, float erosion, identification of schedule risks, issues, and opportunities.
- Presenting schedule variance analysis to identify and report deviations, triggering exception reports as appropriate.
The Person
- Project planners who can deal with complexity, adjust for unexpected variables, and effectively manage resources in a tight labour market.
- Working knowledge of heavy fabrication and an understanding of various fabrication methods like welding, machining, assembly, etc.
- Familiarity with different materials and how they affect the fabrication process.
- An understanding of and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Project Management planning.
- The ability to read and interpret specifications and estimator’s breakdowns.
- Experience creating labour forecasts and carrying out critical path analysis.
- Ability to deliver accurate technical work using initiative to prioritise project deadlines.
