Job description

Our client is a large fabrication company servicing a variety of sectors from their busy North East facility. Due to recent projects won, they now require Project Planners for a 6-month period that could lead to further work.

The Role

  1. Generating, maintaining, and updating the plans for complex projects, especially where timelines are dictated by factors like customer demand and weather constraints.
  2. Scheduling and adapting when issues are identified for recovery while mitigating risk with built-in contingencies for delays using scheduling software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project).
  3. Coordinating live progress updates between customers, engineers, and other stakeholders through exceptional communication to manage expectations and changes.
  4. Accurately estimating timeframes, resource needs, and project constraints, and re-estimating when faced with unexpected disruptions.
  5. Adapting the plan quickly as new challenges arise, whether they come from client demands or weather-related disruptions.
  6. In a market with a skills shortage, with a realistic understanding of the availability of labour and materials, you’ll allocate resources accordingly.
  7. Producing reports on milestone slippage, critical path analysis, resource demand & availability, float erosion, identification of schedule risks, issues, and opportunities.
  8. Presenting schedule variance analysis to identify and report deviations, triggering exception reports as appropriate.

The Person

  1. Project planners who can deal with complexity, adjust for unexpected variables, and effectively manage resources in a tight labour market.
  2. Working knowledge of heavy fabrication and an understanding of various fabrication methods like welding, machining, assembly, etc.
  3. Familiarity with different materials and how they affect the fabrication process.
  4. An understanding of and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Project Management planning.
  5. The ability to read and interpret specifications and estimator’s breakdowns.
  6. Experience creating labour forecasts and carrying out critical path analysis.
  7. Ability to deliver accurate technical work using initiative to prioritise project deadlines.
