Job summary

National Gas is seeking a hands-on Control Systems professional to bridge the Curchover Control Systems project team with Operations. You will lead safety, ensure compliance, and guide best practices across main works contractors and subcontractors.

You will provide technical support, respond to queries, locate drawings, and actively participate in risk assessments, modifications, and critical safety studies to maintain secure, efficient plant operations.

Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of process safety.
• Experience in electrical/instrumentation maintenance, fault finding, diagnostics and installation.
• Procurement, design, delivery and commissioning experience.
• Time served apprenticeship or relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to the project team.
• Respond promptly to technical queries.
• Locate operational and as-built drawings.
• Attend progress meetings and advise on plant operations and limitations.
• Review risk assessments and method statements.
• Adhere to SCO/91 permit guidance and documentation.
• Stay hands-on with maintenance during project peaks and troughs while maintaining authorised roles.
• Manage handover to safe work procedures and change processes.
• Lead design/installation/commissioning modifications following approved processes.
• Participate in HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA studies.

About the role

Provide effective interface between the Curchover Control Systems project team and Operations. To drive a team culture of safe working and safety compliance in all activities within policies and procedures. Acting as role model and demonstrating visible safety leadership to all stakeholders including identification of best practices and safety initiatives between main works contractors and sub-contractors.

What you'll be doing

• Providing technical support to the project team
• Prompt reply to Technical Queries
• Locate operational and as-built drawings
• Attend project progress meetings and provide constructive input and guidance on physical plant operations / limitations
• Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements
• SCO 91 permitry guidance and submission.
• As a lead on the control system project, you’ll also carry out normal operational duties such as Site Controller, Authorising Engineer, a nd Competent Person within SCO/91 & 94
• You’ll remain hands-on with maintenance activities during the peaks and troughs of the project, which is essential to maintaining your authorised roles and staying close to the assets, ensuring operations are accurately represented
• Manage setting to work and in accordance with the safe control of work procedures
• Initiator for G35 modification process, follow design, installation, commissioning and closure of the modification
• Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, HAZCON, LOPA studies

You’re a technically strong and safety-focused professional with experience across operations and project delivery in a live environment. You’re confident influencing decisions, working closely with multiple stakeholders, and providing practical, experience-led guidance. You communicate clearly, take ownership, and lead by example in maintaining high safety and operational standards.

• Time served apprenticeship/relevant experience within the industry
