Overview
Education Scotland is the national improvement agency for Scottish education and an executive agency of the Scottish Government. Our role is to promote improvement through inspection and review, innovation and change, providing support and challenge to the education system. Our programme of inspection reaches all sectors from early learning and childcare to adult learning and allows us to gather evidence of what is working well in our education system, areas which are showing improvement, and areas where further development is needed.
This is an exciting opportunity to support the successful delivery of a wide variety of projects within the organisation. In this post you will provide support to the project manager, ensuring the successful delivery of our strategic plan in accordance with the organisation’s expectations.
Responsibilities
The core responsibilities of the role are outlined below. However, this is an overview of the role and is not exhaustive. Education Scotland reserves the right to assign other duties appropriate to the grade as required.
• Providing assurance to the Project Manager, Programme Manager and Senior Management of the inspectorate.
• Ensure progress and results are communicated effectively and timely to the relevant colleagues within the inspectorate.
• Consistently monitor and manage risks within assigned projects, escalating risks to project manager.
• Identifying and streamlining programme processes, promoting the effective use of technology to ensure processes are efficient and fit for purpose.
Specific Duties – not exhaustive
• Provide operational project support across the inspectorate, ensuring SG project management principles are adhered to.
• Maintain and promote the effective recording of project documentation, ensuring compliance with data protection policies and governance procedures.
• Monitor and track day-to-day project developments against identified milestones.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues across the inspectorate, providing briefings and presentations on project progress as required.
• Develop and implement a consistent review of project risks ensuring effective communication and escalation as required.
• Work closely with the Project Manager and teams across the inspectorate in developing initial project plans, business cases, project mapping, reporting and analysis, providing evidence-based recommendations.
• Support the Project Manager in developing project initiation documentation, accurately identifying project milestones, resources and reporting mechanisms.
• Apply sound financial management principles throughout project development, through to completion.
• Use initiative to identify new opportunities for the effective and efficient delivery of projects.
• Provide forecasting analysis on projects, identifying and analysing project delivery within the context of wider inspectorate aims.
• Research and report on new developments and technologies that could improve processes within projects and the inspectorate.

1. Demonstrable experience of understanding and applying project management principles to a wide range of projects.
2. Excellent understanding, application and communication of risk management principles.
3. Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage and take responsibility for own workload.
4. Excellent understanding of the effective use of technology to improve project effectiveness and efficiency.
Location
This role can be based out of one of our Education Scotland office locations, Glasgow, Livingston, Dundee or Inverness. This post is hybrid working in line with current Scottish Government policies.

Scottish Government is preparing for the implementation of a new HR and Finance platform and, as a result, some job offers will be subject to an October 2024 start date at the earliest. This will be confirmed as your application progresses.
