Job summary

Simply Blue Energy is seeking a Project Managing Director for the Erebus project, based in its Bristol office. You will provide executive leadership to drive the project through critical commercial phases, ensuring alignment with Kansai and a successful Final Investment Decision and financial close.

You will build a capable leadership team, embed lessons learned across Simply Blue, and strengthen governance and organisational capability for future offshore wind initiatives.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree with 20+ years in major infrastructure, energy or offshore wind development/delivery.
• Minimum 5 years as a Project Managing Director or Project Director with ultimate accountability.
• At least 10 years’ offshore wind experience, incl. floating projects, delivering to FID/FC.
• Experience leading complex offshore wind joint ventures and senior board interaction.
• Accredited Project Management Professional with active PMI/PRINCE2 membership.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership for the Erebus project on behalf of the Board and shareholders.
• Direct delivery plans and ensure timely decision-making toward FID and FC.

Purpose of the role:

You will act as Project Managing Director (PMD) for the Erebus project, providing executive leadership during a critical phase of the project's commercial process and delivery, with responsibility for leading the project towards a successful final investment decision (FID) and financial close (FC). You will maintain and strengthen Simply Blue's strategic relationship with Kansai, ensuring effective collaboration and executive engagement. You will also recruit and develop the capability of a Deputy PMD through coaching, mentoring and the transfer of technical, commercial and leadership expertise, strengthening project leadership and succession capability. A key aspect of the role will be capturing the technical, commercial and delivery lessons arising from Erebus and embedding these across Simply Blue to strengthen future project delivery, governance and organisational capability.

You will demonstrate exemplary behaviour with regards to HSE rules and shall ensure that all activities are performed with the highest level of consideration to HSE risk management, protection of human’s health, respect of various communities and care of environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide executive leadership and overall accountability for the successful development of the project on behalf of the Board and shareholders, ensuring compliance with the Shareholders' Agreement, Development Services Agreement and delegated authorities.
• Lead the project through its current commercial phase, ensuring effective governance, timely decision-making and delivery of key development milestones in support of the Final Investment Decision (FID) and Financial Close (FC).
• Ensure the project has a clear and executable delivery plan and an appropriately structured and resourced team, including recruiting the capability required to successfully execute the project.
• Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Project Leadership Team, ensuring effective coordination across the commercial, technical, stakeholder, environmental, procurement and HSEQ functions.
• Oversee project performance, including programme, budget, risk, contractual matters and regulatory compliance, ensuring issues are proactively identified, managed and escalated where appropriate.
• Build and maintain strong executive relationships with shareholders, joint venture partners regulators, contractors, advisers and other key stakeholders, representing the project at governance forums and external engagements.
• Coach, mentor and develop a Deputy Project Managing Director (PMD), ensuring the effective transfer of technical, commercial, leadership and stakeholder knowledge to enable them to successfully lead the Erebus project through to delivery while strengthening long-term project leadership capability. Develop an appropriate succession plan for the PMD role, including proposed timing, for board approval.
• Establish robust governance and knowledge management processes to capture, evaluate and embed the technical, commercial and delivery lessons arising from Erebus, ensuring these are shared across Simply Blue to strengthen organisational capability, governance and future project delivery.
• Build organisational capability through strategic workforce planning, succession planning, leadership development, recruitment, technical competency frameworks and continuous professional development, ensuring Simply Blue develops and retains world-class technical talent.
• Champion a culture of technical excellence, innovation, accountability and organisational learning, ensuring Simply Blue continues to strengthen its capability, improve performance and successfully deliver its long-term growth ambitions.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required:

• Engineering Degree with at least 20 years’ experience in the development and delivery of major infrastructure, energy or offshore wind projects, including substantial experience operating at senior leadership and executive level.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Project Managing Director or Project Director, with ultimate responsibility and accountability for the strategy and successful development and delivery of major infrastructure, energy or offshore wind projects.
• At least 10 years’ experience in the offshore wind sector, including demonstrable experience in the development of floating offshore wind projects, with a strong track record of leading large-scale offshore wind developments through critical development and commercial stages towards Final Investment Decision (FID) and Financial Close (FC).
• Proven experience leading complex offshore wind joint venture projects and working directly with project Boards and shareholders, including responsibility for shareholder alignment, governance, delegated authorities, strategic decision-making and securing approval for significant project commitments.
• Strong commercial and project development experience, including business case development, commercial structuring, financing preparation, procurement and contracting strategy, supply chain commitments and preparation of projects for investment approval.
• Demonstrable experience successfully progressing major offshore wind projects through key development milestones, including consenting, grid connection, Pre-FEED/FEED, procurement and Contract for Difference (CfD) processes, with the ability to identify and resolve issues that could materially affect project value, programme or investment readiness.
• Extensive executive-level stakeholder management experience, with the credibility and influencing skills to build and maintain strategic relationships with shareholders, joint venture partners, investors, government, regulators, advisers, contractors and key supply chain partners.
• Accredited Project Management Professional with current membership of a recognised professional project management institution.

Desirable:

• Experience of offshore wind transactions, including acquisitions, divestments, farm-downs or changes in project ownership, and managing the associated commercial, governance and stakeholder interfaces.
• Demonstrable experience serving as a Company Director, with responsibility for corporate governance, Board-level decision-making and the effective discharge of director responsibilities within a complex project or joint venture environment.
• Demonstrable experience fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement and organisational learning, encouraging teams to challenge established approaches and identify new technical, commercial and delivery solutions to complex project challenges.
• Experience coaching and mentoring senior project leaders and developing succession capability through the effective transfer of technical, commercial, stakeholder and project leadership knowledge.
• Experience capturing and applying lessons from complex offshore wind or infrastructure projects to improve governance, decision-making and the development and delivery of future projects.
