The project:

Our client is one of the largest water companies in the UK, responsible for water and wastewater services in England. Their goal is to deliver services sustainably, economically, and socially responsibly, creating long-term value. We provide a range of services focused on programme and project management and seek opportunities to add value through expert and strategic staffing. The role involves planning and leading the successful delivery of a programme of works by an 'Area delivery team' comprising the client's partners and contractors, in line with their corporate values and requirements such as health and safety, target operating model, and outcomes related to regulation, customer service, and resilience. You will act as the interface between the delivery team and senior business stakeholders, managing internal and external relationships to ensure the successful delivery of the capital programme.

  • Prepare specifications, tenders, and contract documents, and assess tenders for award.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, CDM 2015, health and safety, water quality standards, and legislation.
  • Conduct reviews, inspections, and audits regularly.
  • Manage contractors to meet client satisfaction.
  • Administer contracts, handle payments, notices, and correspondence.
  • Coordinate third-party interactions like planning and land negotiations.
  • Understand client needs and manage stakeholder relationships effectively.

Qualifications:
  • A degree in engineering, construction, or project management, and membership in a relevant institute (e.g., ICE, IMechE, IET, IChemE, RICS). Completion of APM PMQ is required.
  • Based in northwest England, with willingness to travel to multiple sites; secondment to the client is expected.
  • Water sector experience preferred; experience in regulated infrastructure is also considered. Minimum 10+ years project management experience.
  • Familiar with project, programme, and financial management tools like Oracle and Primavera P6.
  • Proven ability to manage large infrastructure projects, preferably in water utilities, and to develop client relationships.
  • Full UK Driving Licence required.
Additional desirable qualities:
  • Membership of RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE, or similar professional bodies.
  • Property or infrastructure project management expertise.
  • Commercial and financial acumen.
  • Experience working in large, diverse teams.
  • Stakeholder relationship development skills.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and carbon considerations in projects.
