Project Manager - (Wastewater Treatment Projects)

Our client is an industry leader in providing innovative and sustainable engineering solutions to design, build, and maintain critical water and wastewater infrastructure. Clients include some of the UK's largest water utilities providers.

This role is a freelance position expected to last 18 months, paid LTD (Outside IR35). Location will be based full-time on-site in the Surrey region, near Woking and Farnborough.

Only candidates with PM level experience working for Main Tier Construction Companies within Water/Wastewater will be considered (Heavy Civils background also accepted).

The Role:

As Project Manager, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to bring water and wastewater infrastructure projects from design through to construction, commissioning, and handover to the client.

Leading all areas of Civil, Building, Engineering scope of works on the project or series of smaller projects, you will be involved in all aspects of delivery including programme management, commercial management, and HSQE development and awareness. You will support a one-team culture and contribute to your own skills and experience. Your role will be key in supporting the Contracts Manager to achieve project outcomes.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies, and procedures are always adhered to on-site.
  • Work closely and collaborate with all key stakeholders including clients, client representatives, and third-party agencies.
  • Ensure a positive experience for the client and their representatives, fostering collaboration and cooperation.
  • Lead and coordinate the multidisciplinary team to deliver the project on-time, on-budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Conduct regular health and safety inspections on live sites, lead toolbox talks, and whiteboard meetings.
  • Implement best practice project management techniques such as Lean Construction and Last Planner.
  • Monitor project performance, including risks and opportunities, and report monthly to the framework manager.
  • Manage procurement of supplies and sub-contracts, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Manage cash flow and ensure timely submission of interim payment applications.
  • Build and promote industry-leading teams through training, mentoring, and development planning.
  • Participate in resource management and recruitment as a hiring manager.
  • Assist with tendering opportunities for new projects.
  • Respond promptly to client and stakeholder feedback and complaints.
  • Seek continuous improvement in project delivery, sharing lessons learned and innovative solutions.
  • Maintain professional development through CPD activities.
Requirements:
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Engineering (Civil preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role for a Main Tier construction company, preferably in water and wastewater industries (Heavy Civils considered).
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet project objectives.
  • Strong negotiation skills with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in programme management software such as Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to prepare and update baseline programmes.
  • Problem-solving skills and initiative in managing issues during project delivery.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Strong communication skills and high motivation.
