Job description

The role

The role will be primarily focused on all aspects of the waste, recycling, and circular economy sectors. It will contribute to business development activities and support other specialists on a range of projects both in the UK and overseas.

You will work with others in the process engineering team and other disciplines across the business, including Advisory, Environmental Management and Compliance, Land and Water, and Environmental Specialist Services Groups on various projects. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Managing waste, recycling, and circular economy projects across the project lifecycle, including preparing concept designs and conducting feasibility studies;
  2. Reviewing third-party designs, technical proposals, operational models, and writing technical due diligence reports for funders;
  3. Preparing technical and procurement documentation, schematics/drawings, and managing contracts during plant construction projects;
  4. Developing models to determine plant energy and mass balances, emission rates, and financial/operational metrics, including thermodynamic calculations;
  5. Conducting on-site inspections, witnessing, verification, supervision of construction, commissioning, testing projects, and troubleshooting operational plants in waste, recycling, renewable energy, and sustainability projects;
  6. Building relationships with clients, attending conferences, developing prospects, writing proposals, and securing new projects;
  7. Assisting other teams within SLR with technical and process engineering aspects of various projects.

About you

To succeed, you should demonstrate:

  • Degree in Engineering or similar;
  • Significant project management experience in recycling, waste, recovery, or related fields;
  • Strong numeracy skills, data handling, basic modelling, excellent report writing, and proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team;
  • Well-organized, logical thinker, friendly, and outgoing with good communication skills;
  • Valid, clean driving license with ability to travel.

Desirable qualifications include a Masters degree, Chartered Engineer status or working towards it, site experience, health and safety knowledge, and a commitment to sustainability.
