The role will primarily involve supporting the Defence Manager in managing the day-to-day across a variety of projects, from smaller-scale, short-term projects to multi-year, high stakeholder engagement programmes.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leading, managing and developing project teams or work streams as part of larger projects and delivering results through others.
  • Commercially aware; experienced in monthly budgeting/forecasting and managing project budgets.
  • Scheduling, tracking progress, monitor performance with KPI’s, highlight delays and plan on how to mitigate them.
  • Managing contract deliverables, variations, and amendments
  • Managing Subcontracts and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
  • Chair of meetings, minute taking and report writing.
  • Manage or support bid preparation.
  • Managing resources, both internal and external, in conjunction with the leadership in Defence Programmes
  • Managing quality and ensuring processes and procedures adhere to ISO accreditations, always striving for best practice.
  • Building long-term trusted advisor relationships with our customers and stakeholders.
  • Continually seek ways to improve the business and align your colleagues to this activity.
  • Coach, share knowledge and train internal and external personnel.
  • Be responsible for maintaining a working environment in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Act in accordance with the code of conduct for UTAC group staff at all times.
  • Adaptability to situations and a willingness to work beyond the job description on occasion (i.e. driving test vehicles, manual handling)

Qualifications

Experience

  • Experience of project management and/or programme management, adding value at the initial strategic planning phase all the way into implementation, construction, and delivery in the context of engineering projects and programmes.
  • Proven experience in meeting demanding deadlines
  • Previous experience of working with UK Government organisations would be beneficial, particularly defence.
  • Experience of managing contractors, consultants, and other advisors on infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject with relatable experience.
  • Recognised project management qualification or certification (PRINCE2, APM, etc) preferred.

Core competencies:

  • Good Level of understanding of the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to project manage multiple projects for multiple customers simultaneously including financial reporting.
  • Technical minute taking
  • Strong understanding of Quality Control management processes
  • Familiarity of working in an ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 environment
  • Good understanding of Safety & Environmental management processes

Essential requirements:

  • Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Owing to the sensitive nature of the works involved in these specialist defence projects, candidates will be required to hold, or be able to hold, valid security clearance (SC) and in order to do so will need to be:
  • British National (residency for the last 5 years)
  • Hold a UK Passport
