Role overview
British Future, a leading independent think tank on issues of immigration, integration, and , is looking for an experienced researcher and relationship-builder to join our expanding team. They will work on a new project on relations between the UK’s South Asian communities.
We are creating a new ‘South Asian Bridgers Forum’: that will seek to strengthen inter-faith and inter-community solidarity between British South Asians, in the wake of concerns about growing polarisation. The project manager will lead a programme of research to explore South Asian public opinion on community relations. They will also oversee the development of a new network of people from South Asian communities to challenge polarising narratives and amplify stories of good relations.
The role requires strong research skills, including designing and conducting interviews, roundtable discussions, focus groups and surveys. It will involve analysing quantitative and qualitative data and writing up findings to diverse, non-specialist, audiences.
The successful candidate will bring good relationship-building and organisational skills to lead on the development of the South Asian Bridgers Forum. This will require proactively engaging influential South Asian stakeholders and facilitating Forum meetings

The post-holder will work alongside our research team and Director, Sunder Katwala, leading onproject delivery. They will also help to fundraise for renewal of the Forum following the initial year of funding.
This position would suit someone with strong research, engagement and team-working skills. As an innovative project, the post-holder will be expected toexplore new techniques to explore new ways of strengthening cohesion in South Asian communities in the UK and to find solutions to complex problems. They will also be expected to find ways to raise the project’s profile and have impact.
Job description
Key responsibilities will include:
●Taking lead responsibility for managing the South Asian Bridgers Forum project: working alongside British Future colleagues and an advisory group to develop and run a network, to deliver research and to produce outputs for the Forum.
●Proactively engaging and building relationships with potential new Forum members and allies in the British South Asian community.
●Designing, setting up and leading on research project methods, including but not limited to: evidence reviews, surveys, interviews, focus groups and roundtable discussions.
●Analysing findings and producing clear, communicable reports, blogs, presentations and other research outputs.
●Designing and facilitating online meetings of the Network and supporting the Events manager with occasional offline events.
●Fundraising to ensure sustainability of the Forum and to support the development of new future projects, with support and guidance from the British Future team.
●Some involvement in additional British Future research projects relating to immigration, integration, or issues.
●Attending external events, such as Party Conferences and Parliamentary events, where required, and to engage withstakeholders, including research funders and policy makers.

Person specification
The types of skills, knowledge and experience we are looking for are below.
Skills
●Ability to design and carry out research involving complex social and community issues(or similar wording)
●A confident relationship builder, able to proactively identify, meet and engage senior stakeholders from policy influencers to community leaders.
●Ability to analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data from a range of sources.
●Excellent written and verbal communication skills: comfortable writing for a range of audiences, presenting complex information in easy-to-understand and engaging formats.
●Collaborative and willing to work closely as part of a small, diverse team.
Knowledge
●Demonstrable interest and knowledge of relationships between South Asian communities in the UK and an understanding of leading British South Asian voices.
●Knowledge and understanding of research design, methods and ethics.
●A strong interest in, and demonstrable knowledge of, public policy making and social change at the community, local and level.
Experience
●Project management: overseeing project delivery within timelines and budgets.
●Conducting primary research including research design (discussion guides, surveys etc.) and moderation.
●Developing fundraising applications, or willingness to learn this from colleagues
●Building networks and collaborating with external partners.
Conditions
A 24-month fixed term contract, with potential for renewal subject to successful fundraising.
The salary for the post is £40,000.
The remuneration package includes a contribution towards a personal pension plan of up to 10% of gross salary, based on double-matching employee contributions. Annual leave is 30 days a year plus bank holidays.
An offer will be conditional on the right to work in the UK over the full period of the contract. Unfortunately, British Future is currently unable to sponsor visas.
Our standard office hours are 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. There is the option to work from home up to three days per week. A willingness to work flexibly and out of hours (with time off in lieu) is needed for this post.
