Since launching in 2021 newcleo has quickly established itself as innovator in the field of nuclear energy. newcleo is working to design, build, and operate Gen-IV Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) that are cooled by liquid lead and fueled by reprocessed nuclear waste.

Through an innovative combination of existing and proven technologies, and by reviving a nuclear industry model based on the manufacture and multi-recycling of Mixed Oxide fuel, newcleo aims to close the nuclear fuel cycle while safely producing clean, affordable, and practically inexhaustible energy required for low carbon economies.

With a EUR 50m group turnover in 2024, more than EUR 400m of private funding and over 70 partnerships and collaborations across the nuclear industry, the growth of the newcleo group is supported through the targeted acquisition of key companies with strong capabilities in nuclear engineering, manufacturing, and waste management.

Through its workforce of over 800 highly qualified employees across France, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, and Slovakia, newcleo is not only developing and delivering the skills and services required for the group's own ambitious project timelines, but also supporting the development of Small Modular Reactor supply chains in Europe and beyond.

Overview of the role:
newcleo is driving forwards an exciting and challenging international programme to develop and deploy our innovative Lead-cooled Fast Reactor technology. We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Project Manager with a specialised focus on site development to join our team. The role requires a proactive, flexible but highly organised Project Manager to meet the developing demands of our deployment programme.

The Project Manager will be responsible for leading lead the site development of our LFR project(s) through to Final Investment Decision (FID). This role is critical in ensuring the successful planning, coordination, and execution of key pre-FID activities, working across multiple disciplines, stakeholders, and regulatory frameworks. A core responsibility of this position is to ensure the project is structured to be investable and financeable, mitigating risks and enhancing its attractiveness to investors and financial institutions.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in complex project development, in particular developing infrastructure projects through to financial investment decision.

As newcleo is a start up company the role will require a hands-on proactive approach and the individual must be comfortable with early-stage programmes. They must have the ability to work with ambiguity and change whilst establishing a clear path towards successful project delivery. The role provides the opportunity for an individual to expand their capability and experience as the programme grows from its early definition through to multi £billion delivery.

Reporting to our Programme Manager, the core duties & areas the role will cover includes:

  • Project manage the site development for newcleo's UK nuclear new build projects, facilitating the development and deployment of LFR 200 nuclear power plants on UK sites, in line with newcleo's responsibilities as a prospective nuclear site license holder and intelligent customer duties and working in close collaboration with colleagues across newcleo both in the UK and overseas.
  • Ownership of the overall integrated plan to FID of the UK projects, ensuring interfaces and key milestones are clearly identified and defined, work is broken down into unique work packages and resources are clearly identified.
  • Develop and maintain the Project Execution Plan for UK site development and deployment for LFR200 and lead the development of any Business Cases required to support key funding approvals for site deployment.
  • Support the identification of the overall technical, project delivery and commercial requirements for site development and deployment. Ensure these requirements are feed into Global Engineering so the LFR200 design is able to respond to the UK context.
  • Support the development and agreement of budgets for projects and identify critical milestones and interfaces between projects. Work with PMs / Project Leads to ensure these are well defined and tracked.
  • Help develop, establish and maintain and governance for site development for the LFR 200 Deployment Programme, defining clear roles, responsibilities and accountability that align with overall programme governance practices. Ensure a clear RACI across projects and programmes between Project Controls, PMs and Project Participants.

The role can be based in our London, Manchester or Gloucester offices, where we have a hybrid & flexible working policy of 3 days per week in the office. There is also travel opportunities to our offices in Turin (Italy) and Lyon (France), in order to collaborate and build strong working relationships across our Global Team.

  • Demonstrable experience in infrastructure development, with a proven track record of delivering projects through early-stage development to FID.
  • Strong knowledge of land use planning, permitting processes, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Experience managing complex stakeholder relationships including regulatory bodies, local communities, and investors.
  • Familiarity with project economics and investment decision frameworks.
  • Understanding of engineering and construction requirements for major energy projects.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to navigate risk management, compliance, and contractual obligations in a high-stakes environment.
