Position: Project Manager/Senior Project Manager

Location: Chelmsford

Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 (Guide Salary) Plus Car/Allowance & Package

Our client is a Tier 1 D&B Contractor operating predominantly in the water industry, delivering water and wastewater non-infrastructure projects for Essex & Suffolk Water.

They are recruiting for a Project Manager/Senior Project Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team, overseeing the full project lifecycle from concept through design, construction, commissioning, and handover. The focus will be on delivering projects on time, within budget, and adhering to safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The role involves fostering collaboration and performance across internal teams, partners, and the supply chain.

Your role will start in a neighboring region to embed you within their culture and ways of working. Responsibilities include:

  1. Promoting a strong safety culture and maintaining quality standards across teams.
  2. Building and maintaining excellent relationships with partners and suppliers.
  3. Leading, inspiring, and developing high-performing teams across engineering, planning, and commercial functions.
  4. Translating strategy into actionable project plans.
  5. Managing project delivery through all stages, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
  6. Collaborating with Commercial and Planning teams for accurate forecasting and risk mitigation.
  7. Ensuring solutions are safe, commercially viable, and meet client needs.
  8. Driving delivery against milestones and contractual/regulatory requirements.
  9. Creating an open team environment to promote collaboration and positive relationships.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership in delivering complex infrastructure/non-infrastructure projects, ideally in the water sector.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and a solution-focused mindset.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary design and construction projects.
  • Degree or equivalent in construction, commercial, or engineering disciplines.
  • Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Delivery-driven with ability to motivate teams to meet targets.
  • Extensive project delivery experience.
  • Knowledge of Construction Contracts, preferably NEC and/or IChemE.
  • Ability to negotiate and administer contracts.
  • Experience presenting at Governance Reviews.
  • Risk & Opportunity Management experience.
  • Positive and solution-oriented approach.
  • Working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.

Desirable:

  • Experience with water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Chartered status with an engineering, commercial, or construction institution.
  • NEC Project Manager Accreditation.
