Job Title: Project Manager / Senior Engineer – Ground Investigation

Location: Glasgow

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

A specialist ground investigation contractor is looking for a Project Manager or a Senior Engineer looking to make a move into a role as a Trainee Project Manager.

This is an opportunity to step into a key delivery role within a well-established business that focuses exclusively on high-quality, compliant ground investigation services across Scotland.

Whether you’re coming from a Project Management, Trainee PM, or Site Engineering background, if you have experience in ground investigation or related fields (e.g. geotechnical, environmental, civil engineering), this could be your next big step.

Why This Role?

You’ll be overseeing multiple ground investigation projects from pre-start through to completion. That means owning the planning, resource coordination, technical delivery, client communication, reporting, and invoicing. You’ll also play a key role in supporting business development and mentoring junior staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage ground investigation projects from start to finish
  • Coordinate fieldwork operations, staff, plant, and equipment
  • Ensure all work complies with industry regulations and internal HSEQ standards
  • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders
  • Prepare RAMS, factual reports, and project-related documentation
  • Monitor budgets and milestones, and manage invoicing and payment follow-ups
  • Assist with tender preparation and input into future business planning
  • Mentor junior staff and support team development
Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is hands-on, commercially aware, and passionate about delivering high-quality ground investigation projects.

Ideal experience includes:
  • 3–5+ years in ground investigation, site investigation, geotechnical, or construction project management
  • Strong understanding of field operations and site-based work
  • Familiarity with soil logging, lab testing schedules, and technical reporting
  • Comfortable managing teams and liaising with clients
  • Organised, proactive, and confident making decisions on-site and in the office
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related (preferred)
What’s on Offer
  • A strong pipeline of specialist ground investigation projects across Scotland
  • Opportunities to progress into Principal or Contracts Management roles
  • Competitive salary and benefits
  • Company vehicle or allowance (depending on experience)
  • Private healthcare and staff discounts
  • Ongoing CPD and career development
  • Flexible and supportive working environment
What Matters
  • Ground Investigation Knowledge – this is the foundation of the role
  • Responsibility – we want someone who can take ownership of projects
  • Client-Focused – you should be comfortable building and maintaining relationships
  • Team Leadership – mentoring junior staff and keeping field teams aligned
  • Continuous Improvement – always looking for smarter, safer, more efficient ways to work
