Job description
Overview

Project Manager – Power Burners

Salary: Up to £75,000 + Benefits
Location: Stamford, Lincolnshire (within 1 hour’s commute)

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Power Burners to join a specialist engineering organisation delivering full life-cycle projects across the combustion, energy, and environmental sectors. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled project professional with mechanical or electrical engineering expertise to play a key role in delivering technically complex, high-impact solutions.

Unlike EPC environments where projects are passed between teams, this role requires ownership of the entire project life cycle—from concept and design, through manufacturing and quality assurance, to installation and commissioning. If you have solid project engineering experience and a strong background in burners, combustion systems, or chemical/industrial engineering, this position offers long-term career development and global project exposure.

Key Responsibilities

As a Project Manager – Power Burners, you will take full accountability for the planning, execution, and delivery of technically challenging combustion and burner projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Full Project Ownership – Lead projects from initial sales handover through design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, testing, delivery, installation, and final client acceptance.
  • Detailed Planning & Scheduling – Develop robust project plans, allocate resources, and manage timelines to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Technical Coordination – Oversee the creation and review of engineering documents including P&IDs, electrical connection diagrams, valve assemblies, and fabrication drawings. Provide guidance to drafting teams and ensure technical accuracy.
  • Design Validation – Verify equipment design, perform calculations, and ensure compliance with client specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
  • Supplier & Vendor Management – Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to coordinate procurement, track material availability, and resolve technical or commercial queries.
  • Budget & Cost Control – Monitor project costs, track variations, and implement change control processes to maintain financial control. Provide clear reporting on progress and forecast outcomes.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication – Act as the main point of contact for clients and end-users, ensuring clear, consistent communication. Manage technical discussions, resolve issues, and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Quality & Compliance – Ensure all work meets strict manufacturing, quality control, and inspection requirements. Work closely with the QC team to implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Documentation & Reporting – Maintain accurate project documentation including project files, schedules, budgets, change records, and client communications. Prepare project status reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving & Risk Management – Anticipate risks, identify bottlenecks, and implement effective solutions to keep projects on track.
  • Continuous Improvement – Contribute ideas to improve internal processes, engineering standards, and project delivery efficiency.
  • Global Exposure – Support site visits, factory acceptance tests (FATs), commissioning activities, and occasional international client meetings.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 4 years’ project engineering or project management experience within mechanical/electrical/industrial environments.
  • Proven ability to manage projects from design through to installation and commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, with ability to read and interpret CAD drawings.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Competent IT skills across Microsoft Project, Excel, and Word.
  • A relevant engineering degree (Prince2 or equivalent desirable).
Desirable Background
  • Experience in petrochemical, refinery, or combustion industries.
  • Chemical engineering knowledge, particularly relating to burner systems.
  • Site experience and understanding of QC, inspection, and testing processes.
Additional Requirements
  • Must live within a 1-hour commute of Stamford, Lincolnshire.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel worldwide.
  • Self-motivated, assertive, and able to thrive under pressure.
