Job Purpose

Job Title: Project Manager

Advertised Salary: £35,000 - £40,750 + car cash allowance (£4,860 p.a.) + benefits.

Location: Remote/home based, with intermittent travel across our Midlands canal networks.

Are you an experienced Project Manager / Engineer interested in putting your project management expertise into practice to ultimately benefit millions of people? We are the Charity for waterways and wellbeing, who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of waterways across England and Wales, because we believe that life is better by water.

We are currently looking for a Project Manager to join our Infrastructure and Programme Delivery (IPD) team; playing an important role in supporting our vision and delivering our Waterways and Wellbeing strategy. You will be involved in a range of projects that will ensure our existing national waterways, reservoirs and infrastructure are managed and maintained, as well as being fundamental in bringing new developments and improvements to life for our visitors, customers, and service users.

You will join a regional team of project managers and senior project managers and will be supported by a Principal Project Manager in delivering our maintenance and construction programmes.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

In this role you will be developing in your role as a Project Manager, supported by senior members of the team to work with a diverse range of stakeholders and partners to deliver our infrastructure projects; from conception through to successful completion. As our projects will vary in size, scope, budget and impact you will need to ensure all projects are delivered in an effective and efficient manner.

Key accountabilities:

  • Work safely always, ensuring the safety of others and contribute to safe working in all activities.
  • Capture project requirements and prepare a business case to justify investment in a project.
  • Develop and monitor the project programme and key milestones to achieve the project objectives.
  • Provide financial and cost management, forecasting project costs, and controlling actual costs against the agreed budgets.
  • With assistance from senior members of the project delivery team, lead and direct the project team to ensure all project objectives are achieved.
  • Manage risks, issues, and changes on the project.
  • Maintain communications with stakeholders and the project team/organisation.
  • With assistance from others, manage all contracts applicable to the project (e.g., NEC ECC, NEC PSC).
  • Handover and closure of the highlighting any areas for improvements or elements of good practice.

About you

Qualifications:

  • HNC / HND (or equivalent) in a related discipline e.g., Engineering, Project Management.
  • Valid UK driving licence - Car Cash allowance & regional/national travel, including to remote locations is expected.

Experience:

  • Previous Project Management experience of successfully managing multiple low/medium complexity projects within the relevant discipline / sector (e.g., construction, asset management).
  • Knowledge of project management processes and systems.
  • Experience working with NEC 3 / 4 contracts.

General skills:

  • Possess good communication skills both verbal and written. Be able to manage stakeholders, taking account influence and impact.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain project programmes / schedules.
  • Develop and agree budgets for projects and control forecast and actual costs against budget.
  • Be good at problem solving and be able to resolve conflicts.
  • Open, positive, can-do attitude which builds confidence and credibility both within the team and stakeholders.
  • Possess good IT skills. Use of MS project would be an advantage.
