About the role

The Project Manager - Methane will be responsible for leading the coordination of Climate Group's role within the Subnational Methane Action Coalition (SMAC). Working closely with internal colleagues, external partners, and subnational governments, the Project Manager will ensure the coordination, expansion, and delivery of SMAC; establish a thriving Community of Practice among SMAC members and partners; facilitate the development and implementation of methane action plans with technical partners; overseeing the development and delivery of an advocacy and communications strategy for the coalition; and organising key international and regional convenings. The Project Manager will ensure that the project progress is well tracked, and that detailed reports are produced in a timely manner. They will also work on the long-term growth and sustainability of the coalition.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Project management: Ensure that Climate Group delivers its obligations to SMAC, to a high quality, and in a timely manner.
  • Coordination: Working closely with project team, partners, and subnational governments, lead the coordination of SMAC.
  • Expansion: Working closely with colleagues, map and engage potential target jurisdictions for recruitment to SMAC.
  • Delivery: Lead on developing and delivering a joint workplan for SMAC, and developing strategic partnerships for the coalition.
  • Community of Practice: Lead on working closely with SMAC members and partners to set up a community of practice to share policy lessons on reducing methane emissions from priority sectors, including the waste sector.
  • Technical support: Work with subnational governments and technical partners to facilitate the development and implementation of methane action plans.
  • Advocacy and communications: Oversee the development of an advocacy and communications strategy to amplify the work of SMAC.
  • International/ regional convenings: Lead on the organisation of key international and regional convenings to profile SMAC members' leadership on methane abatement.
  • Business development: Working closely with colleagues, identify opportunities to grow and diversify our work on subnational methane abatement

About you

Essential

  • Proven experience and success in delivering high impact projects in the international climate action space.
  • Strong understanding of climate change policy, with experience of working with government stakeholders and technical experts to deliver on the ground results.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and excellent coordination and implementation skills.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills - including confidence in running meetings/ convenings with multiple stakeholders, leading discussions, communicating actions and key takeaways.
  • Experience and expertise on grant and budget management, report writing and financial reporting, and business development.

Desirable

  • Knowledge/ experience of working on methane mitigation, emissions reduction, and subnational governance.
  • Experience working directly with subnational governments (states, provinces, or regions) on climate or environmental initiatives.
  • Experience working in a global organization or multi-time zone and multi-lingual environment.
  • Experience contributing to or developing advocacy strategies for international climate policy.
  • Knowledge of international frameworks such as the UNFCCC, Global Methane Pledge, or Climate & Clean Air Coalition.

You'll be based in our London head office near Tower Bridge (SE1 2NQ), a 12-minute walk from London Bridge station and enjoy the benefits of flexible and hybrid working: 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

This is a full-time 24-month fixed-term contract (with the possibility of renewal).

The salary offered is £38,560 - £47,130 per annum, based on experience.
