Job summary

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager to lead the delivery of a long‑term Environment Agency framework across the Wessex region, covering Bristol, Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset.

This is a key leadership role responsible for managing a team planning and undertaking MEICA activities, including minor projects, planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a diverse portfolio of Environment Agency assets. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining and developing an established client relationship while ensuring the safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery of framework activities.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, the role is primarily based from the office in Highbridge with regular travel to sites across the Wessex region.

About the Business Unit

Our specialist MEICA team delivers a broad range of maintenance, repair, upgrade and project works across Environment Agency assets throughout the region. Activities include the maintenance and improvement of pumping systems, moving structures, electrical and mechanical plant, control panels, PLC and SCADA systems, flood defence infrastructure and associated assets.

Working within an established framework environment, the team delivers planned and reactive works, minor capital projects and asset improvement schemes, ensuring critical infrastructure continues to operate safely and effectively.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery of works across the Environment Agency Wessex MEICA Framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing the day-to-day delivery of minor projects, planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance activities across the Wessex region.
  • Leading and developing a multidisciplinary team undertaking mechanical, electrical and asset maintenance works.
  • Preparing and reviewing Construction Phase Plans (CPPs), Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Ensuring all works are delivered safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with contractual, environmental and quality requirements.
  • Working closely with specialist subcontractors and supply chain partners to deliver framework activities.
  • Managing and maintaining strong working relationships with Environment Agency stakeholders and continuing the positive, established client relationship.
  • Supporting the identification and resolution of reactive asset issues, providing practical engineering solutions where required.
  • Working collaboratively with commercial teams to develop task costings, project estimates and pricing submissions.
  • Managing project programmes, resource allocation and delivery priorities across multiple workstreams.
  • Monitoring project performance, identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures.
  • Ensuring effective change management and communication across client and operational teams.
  • Conducting site visits and asset inspections across the region to support operational delivery and client engagement.
  • Supporting future business growth opportunities and framework development activities.
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Project Manager, Senior Agent, Contracts Manager or similar leadership role within a MEICA, mechanical, electrical or engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical assets, ideally including pumps, weirs, moving structures, control systems, electrical apparatus, PLCs and SCADA systems.
  • Experience managing planned, reactive and maintenance-based work programmes.
  • Ability to prepare and review CPPs, RAMS and other project documentation.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and specialist supply chain partners.
  • Commercial awareness with experience supporting cost planning, pricing and programme development.
  • Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Qualifications
  • SMSTS.
  • Relevant Mechanical and/or Electrical qualifications.
  • HNC, HND, Degree in Engineering or equivalent industry experience would be advantageous
