Job description

Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a specialist logistics and marine transport company, widely recognized for its heavy-lift, project cargo, and offshore services to recruit a Project Manager with a Marine background for their Portishead site.

The Project Manager role comes with a salary between 50,000 - 65,000 as well as hybrid working arrangements and a great package. Responsibilities and duties of the Project Manager role

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager you will:

  • Ensure projects are delivered in full compliance with contractual terms and conditions, capturing all variations and ensuring they are appropriately billed.
  • Oversee adherence to the internal project process to ensure each project is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety and quality throughout all phases from initiation to closure.
  • Actively manage project financials to maximise profitability, using a proactive approach to identify early warnings and address potential deviations before they escalate.
  • Negotiate and purchase strategically from suppliers to minimise cost while maintaining value and quality.
  • Ensure all required engineering documentation is produced to a high standard and peer-reviewed before execution. Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers, enabling the delivery of exceptional heavy lift, transport, and installation solutions.
  • Proactively manage all risks-commercial, operational, environmental, and safety-related-to protect the business, its employees, clients, and associated contractors.
  • Foster and maintain strong, proactive relationships with clients, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout project lifecycles.
  • Support tendering activities efficiently and within deadlines, contributing both internally and externally as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management Team to conduct regular face-to-face meetings with current and prospective clients. Discuss pipelines of work, strengthen relationships, and log meeting outcomes in the CRM system, including new tenders or secured contracts.

Professional and Personal skills

The Project Manager role would suit someone who has:

  • Bachelors or HNC/HND in an engineering discipline OR a sea-going/marine qualification
  • Proven track record in the operational, commercial, and technical execution of marine project cargo logistics across multiple major projects and diverse market sectors, including renewables, oil & gas, petrochemical, power, civil engineering, and offshore modules.
  • Extensive experience managing multimodal transport projects (land and marine), with a strong ability to coordinate and oversee critical interface points such as port operations.
  • Solid understanding of key project management disciplines, including project initiation and planning, quality assurance, project structuring, risk and contract management, cost control, financial oversight, execution, leadership, teamwork, and effective communication.
