Digital Services

Digital Services is a strategic enabler at the MTC delivering reliable, secure, and innovative technology solutions. It is responsible for the planning, implementation, and maintenance of all information systems and digital infrastructure across the business. The department works collaboratively with all areas of the business to ensure digital technology enables productivity, innovation, and resilience.

Key functions of the Digital Services department include:

Service Desk and End-User Support: Providing first-line technical support to colleagues and a variety of support and maintenance activities from onboarding new starters to managing modern workplace kit, licensing services and much more.

Infrastructure & Operations: Ensuring the availability and performance of hardware, networks, servers, and cloud services.

Cybersecurity: Protecting systems and data from internal and external threats, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Enterprise Applications: Managing enterprise software (e.g., ERP and COTS applications) and supporting digital transformation initiatives.

Governance & Project Delivery: Ensuring IT policies, procedures, and controls are in place to support operational integrity and regulatory compliance. Governing and project managing technology projects, upgrades, and system implementations aligned with business priorities.



The Role

Seeking a proactive and experienced IT Project Manager to lead the delivery of high-impact digital initiatives across the MTC. This role offers the opportunity to shape and drive projects that support both internal operations and external customer engagements, contributing directly to MTC’s strategic technology roadmap. The role will not have direct line management responsibility but will include functional management of an Assistant Project Manager, including coaching and on-the-job training for the APM when appropriate.

Main Responsibilities:

As a Project manager you will:

• Lead and manage the successful delivery of several projects working across various IT technologies and departmental teams.

• Contribute to portfolio-level planning and prioritisation, ensuring alignment with business goals.

• Facilitate stakeholder workshops and governance forums to ensure shared understanding and buy-in.

• Set up and deliver projects using the Digital Services Project Management Process (DS PMP) and tools, including change control and risk, issue & scope management.

• Create and maintain project plans, RAID logs and other project documentation.

• Liaise with resource owners / team leads to ensure effective use of resources in delivering project quality, cost & delivery within project scope.

• Offer clear, concise and timely communication to key stakeholders, ensuring they are briefed on any mission critical issues and remedial plans are fully agreed.

• Define, measure and report regular updates of project performance to the customer, senior management and key stakeholders.

• Act as champion for Digital Services’ project management processes, tools & techniques.

• Contribute to continuous improvement activities relating to DS PMP tools and processes.

Person Specification: Skills/Qualifications/Experience

Essential:

• Hold project management qualifications (if not the preferred below) e.g. PRINCE2.

• Experience working in or with internal digital (IT) teams and/or delivery of IT projects.

• Knowledge and experience of project management processes and methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid) and reporting techniques.

• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex, multi-disciplinary IT projects in dynamic environments, ideally within technology, engineering, or research sectors.

• Demonstrable knowledge of PMP and PMO policies and procedures.

• An experienced MS Office user (and D365 – preferred).

• Dynamic ability to deliver customer requirements in balance with other priorities and constraints such as time, and resources.

• Demonstrate a clear leadership style directing others to achieve project success.

• An articulate and effective communicator able to build and actively manage a good working relationship with all types of stakeholders from internal customers, C-suite and external partners (e.g. suppliers).

• Skilled in requirements capture and scope definition activities.

• Influencing skills to bring project teams together, and to shape project scope and goals.

• A natural investigatory nature with strong analytical skills.

Preferred:

• Educated to degree level.

• Significant understanding of APM PM competencies.

• Association of Project Management (APM) qualification (or willingness to work towards achieving this accredited qualification).

• ITIL4 Foundation or higher (or willingness to work towards achieving this accredited qualification).

• Experience and a working understanding of delivering projects in a professional services environment.

• Experience coaching and developing other project roles.

• Experience in business analysis type roles or activities.
