This contract role is centred around the successful completion of medium-scale civil engineering projects in Portsmouth, particularly focusing on highway assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and lead the project management of highway and civil engineering schemes from inception to completion
- Prepare estimates, monitor, and review project costs to ensure completion within agreed budgets
- Achieve required levels of quality and ensure value for money
- Provide project management throughout the life cycle of a project, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery
- Appoint and manage contractors, ensuring accurate and up-to-date Project Initiation Documentation (PID)
- Represent the team and council at meetings, assist in consultations, and liaise with stakeholders
- Prepare and present reports to Project Boards and other relevant bodies as required
- Encourage junior project managers to pursue personal development through effective supervision and allocation of work
Job Requirements:
- Professional project management qualification (e.g. Prince 2) and ideally membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. APM)
- Experience in managing small-scale civil engineering projects, including NEC contracts
- Ability to lead project teams with strong delegation and management skills
- Commercial awareness with experience in strict budgetary controls and financial analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage time effectively
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and written skills
- Experience in preparing reports and conducting research
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Project
