Join a leading conservation organization as a Project Manager focused on wetland recovery in the Cambridgeshire Fens. You will lead innovative projects to create and restore wetlands, working closely with various stakeholders to enhance biodiversity and ecological health. This role combines fieldwork and desk-based tasks, offering a chance to make a significant impact in wetland conservation.
Wetland conservation, creation and management
The Cambridgeshire Fens is one of the UK’s most important wetland landscapes – what we call a Waterscape. WWT already plays a significant role in this Waterscape, through the management of WWT Welney and our work to recover the black-tailed godwit, and together with our conservation partners we aspire to make it bigger, better and more connected for the benefit of wetland wildlife.
We want to expand our portfolio of landscape-scale wetland recovery projects and are therefore looking for a Project Manager with technical skills and experience in wetland habitat design and delivery to develop and progress some of these opportunities. Initially, our Project Manager will lead on Great Ouse Blue Connections, our bold and exciting project which aims to create and restore wetlands across the Great Ouse Lower catchment. During the first phase of the project, we will work with landholders, environmental and community groups to develop a wetland vision and creation plan for selected waterbodies within the catchment.
For the right candidate, we can offer:
This position is home-based within 25 miles of Huntingdon/St Neots, as regular travel will be required within the Great Ouse Lower catchment.
In order to be the successful candidate, you will be a practical person, with on-the-ground experience of managing and creating wetland habitats. You will have a good working knowledge of how wetlands function so that you can identify opportunities for new and better wetlands and be able to design simple schemes.
Elsewhere, this role might be called Conservation Manager, Technical Manager, Project Development Manager or Nature Recovery Project Manager.
We are looking for a practically-minded conservationist with the skills and experience in wetland creation to lead the development phase of this project. You’ll be a proactive and motivated person, who cares deeply about the success and impact of your work and is willing to develop your skills and knowledge.
You’ll be enthusiastic about nature recovery and recognise the value of working at the landscape-scale. You’ll be a strong communicator, advocating your work successfully to a wide range of stakeholders, and effective at engaging landholders, particularly the farming community.
You’ll have experience in successfully delivering projects and understand the importance of a professional attitude in project management. You will enjoy working in an organisation with a strong ‘can-do’ attitude that wants to make a difference and is willing to run with good ideas.
If this sounds like you, then we would love to hear from you. Come and join us in delivering our vision of a world where healthy wetland nature thrives and enriches lives.
We’re WWT, and we’re on a mission to restore the super-powered ecosystems we call wetlands . There’s never been a more important moment for our work, and we’ve got some phenomenal people on the case.
Whether they’re taking a new visitor under their wing, or conducting ground-breaking research further afield, our team are second to none. And there’s nothing we love more than watching them soar.
Whatever you do here, you’ll be helping to restore wetlands and unlock their power. So, the only question left is, what role will you play?
