Project Manager – Flood Risk and Environmental Improvement

Are you interested in managing projects that deliver tangible environmental change? Can you contribute to enhancing environmental resilience and addressing climate change challenges?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Project Manager to oversee a range of Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management and environmental improvement projects, mainly in Wales and Southwest England. Current projects include the Cardiff Coastal Defence Scheme, Bedminster River Restoration, habitat creation, and fish passage initiatives.

The role involves leading or supporting client management in project costs, schedules, risk mitigation, and team delivery, including subcontractors.

You will manage projects involving flood risk mitigation, asset design and construction, refurbishment, habitat creation, or enhancement. Additionally, you will mentor junior project managers and utilize strong communication skills to manage client expectations and meet project goals.

The key responsibilities include:
  • Managing project budgets, schedules, changes, and risks
  • Overseeing subcontractors
  • Managing NEC contracts
  • Providing accurate cost forecasts and progress reports
  • Collaborating on project delivery
  • Building stakeholder relationships
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance
Location:

The position is based in our Newport office (NP20 1FQ). The role may involve a mix of office, site, and remote work, supporting our flexible working policies.

Qualifications and Experience:
Key competencies:

Effective communication, organizational skills, prioritization, pragmatic thinking, proactive attitude, and workload management are essential. Chartered status is highly valued, with a desire to attain chartered membership with APM, ICE, or CIWEM encouraged.

Applicants should hold a relevant degree or equivalent, with an interest in environmental management or engineering. Postgraduate qualifications like MSc., Prince2, or similar are desirable. Experience in project delivery, health and safety compliance, subcontractor management, and understanding of CDM regulations are required.

Essential skills:
  • Proven project delivery experience with safety and regulatory compliance
  • Proficiency in project scheduling software (e.g., MS Project)
  • Experience managing NEC contracts
  • Team building and resource management skills
  • Report writing and quality assurance capabilities
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Knowledge of planning and consenting regimes in England and Wales
  • Understanding of CDM regulations
  • Experience working in a BIM Level 2 environment
