Job Summary

The Security Services Group (SSG) is a specialist business unit delivering high-assurance security solutions across the MOD and wider Government Estate. With over 260 highly skilled experts based in the UK, Germany, Cyprus, and Gibraltar, SSG designs, installs, and maintains advanced security systems to protect Defence operations, national security assets, and critical government infrastructure. Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and passionate professional to join as a Security System Project Manager in the SSG’s Eastern Team which has its main office at RAF Wyton.

The position advertised will provide support in relation to the installation and maintenance of security systems across the Ministry of Defence and Other Government Department estates.

As a Security System Project Manager, you will act as a key customer interface, representing SSG at high-level external meetings and ensuring the successful delivery of security projects.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Delivery

  • Lead security system installation projects, including design, costing, planning, procurement, and financial control.
  • Oversee project contracts, ensuring delivery on time, cost, and quality targets.
  • Provide technical oversight of electronic security project delivery.
  • Ensure project finances are tightly controlled, including estimating, job costing, invoicing, and budget management.
  • Liaise with SSG Project Managers and Client Security Officers on key projects.
  • Work with the finance and commercial teams to conduct quarterly financial and performance reviews.

Team & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Line manage the “in-house” Skill Zones and sub-contractors, directing their work effectively.
  • Foster strong working relationships within the SSG Eastern Management Team and wider MoD teams.
  • Engage with senior management levels of customers to interpret financial and technical requirements.
  • Represent SSG in negotiations with commercial project and facilities management companies.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement, ensuring alignment with SSG operational delivery and future development.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with British, European, and Government security standards.
  • Develop and maintain risk assessments, method statements, construction phase plans, and toolbox talks.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety policies and Quality Assurance (QA) standards.

Additional Duties

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all aspects of electronic security.
  • Participate in SSG’s on-call rota to support operational needs.
  • Travel across the East of England, visiting multiple Governmental and Military sites. A non-liveried company vehicle is provided (including personal use, subject to taxable benefit).

  • Proven experience working with senior management levels of customers.

Standards & Compliance

  • Knowledge of British, European, and Government security standards.
  • Familiarity with QA and Health & Safety (H&S) policies.

Desirable

Technical & Engineering Expertise

  • Engineering background, preferably Electrical.
  • Experience managing Electronic and Physical Security systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC3 and/or CDM Project Management processes.
  • Experience of dealing with both Commercial Project and Facilities Management companies
  • Experience of delivering Technical operational functionality within Government

Qualifications & Professional Memberships

  • HNC in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in Electronic Security Systems (IDS, CCTV, etc.) or equivalent.
  • Membership in the Association of Project Managers or Security Institute.
  • CEng Chartered Engineer.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments.
