Job summary

CNX Recruitment is seeking an experienced Project Construction Manager to lead on a major school construction project in Middlesbrough. You will oversee on-site activities, coordinate subcontractors and consultants, and drive the project to programme and quality standards.

The role requires proven construction leadership, strong programme management, and a sharp focus on health & safety. You will work closely with a project team and client representatives to ensure successful delivery.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Construction Manager, Project Manager, Senior Site Manager or similar.
• Strong experience delivering building/construction projects.
• Experience on education/public sector or complex projects is advantageous.
• Knowledge of construction processes, sequencing and programme management.
• Effective subcontractor and site team management skills.
• Solid understanding of health, safety and quality requirements.
• Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
• Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
• Proactive problem-solver able to keep projects moving.
• CSCS certification or equivalent qualification.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage day-to-day construction activities on the project.
• Coordinate subcontractors, site teams and trades.
• Drive the project programme and achieve key milestones.
• Coordinate works across multiple trades and disciplines.
• Monitor quality and compliance with project specs.
• Ensure all works meet health and safety requirements.
• Attend and lead progress meetings as required.
• Collaborate with the commercial team to monitor progress and costs.
• Review programmes, RAMS, drawings and technical information.
• Identify and resolve construction issues proactively.
• Maintain strong communication with project team and stakeholders.
• Ensure site documentation and reporting are maintained.
• Support successful handover and completion of the project.

The Role

The Ideal Candidate

Successful Candidate Will Have

• Proven experience as a Construction Manager, Project Manager, Senior Site Manager or similar.
• Strong experience delivering building/construction projects.
• Previous experience working on education, public sector or similarly complex projects would be highly advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of construction processes, sequencing and programme management.
• Excellent subcontractor and site team management skills.
• A strong understanding of health & safety and quality requirements.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
• Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
• A proactive approach with the ability to resolve issues and keep projects moving.
• Relevant construction qualifications and CSCS certification.

Candidates must be able to reliably travel to the project for the duration of the contract.
