Job description

PROJECT MANAGER – FLOOD MITIGATION

Within our Rivers and Flooding area, we’re looking for a Project Manager to join our Flood Mitigation team, helping deliver essential projects that reduce flood risk, protect customers, and strengthen community resilience across our region.

Based at our Raynesway office in Derby, you’ll report to the Lead Project Manager and take ownership of delivering the Flood Mitigation Programme. You’ll manage multiple low‑value, medium‑risk flood‑mitigation schemes from concept through to completion—ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This role combines leadership, stakeholder engagement, commercial awareness, and a strong commitment to safety and community impact.

From defining scope and coordinating design, to managing NEC contracts, engaging customers, and ensuring regulatory compliance, you’ll play a key role in reducing flood impacts across our networks and supporting those we serve.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

We’re looking for someone with the technical capability, resilience, and people skills to lead meaningful flood‑related projects that matter to our customers and communities.

  • Experience in flood risk, drainage, or water engineering (desirable)
  • Understanding of flood‑mitigation techniques, surface water systems, and drainage (desirable)
  • Experience working within the NEC project management framework
  • Strong application of risk‑management principles, particularly around customers and flood‑affected areas
  • Experience working with flood‑risk and civil engineering standards, building regulations, and best practice
  • Experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver flood‑mitigation outcomes
  • Knowledge and practical application of CDM regulations for infrastructure delivery
  • Experience collaborating with supply chain partners to meet milestones, H&S standards, specifications, and quality requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction, Project Management, or Environmental discipline (desirable)
  • APM or NEC accreditation (desirable)
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential)

Skills and experience matter, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. If you care about making a difference and want to be part of something bigger, you’ll fit right in.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU

It’s not just a job; it’s a career. We offer benefits that reward great work and award‑winning training to help you reach your potential. Plus, you’ll contribute to the environment and community too.

  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/sell up to 5 additional days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to £2,250 depending on company performance)
  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers
  • Family friendly policies (including a year off fully paid maternity and adoption leave)
  • Two volunteering days per year
