The role

SSEN Transmission’s Offshore Delivery Team is actively seeking a Delivery Project Manager to join the Orkney 220kV Transmission Link, a strategically vital infrastructure project currently in its execution phase, with planned completion in 2028. This link will enable the connection of renewable energy generated on the islands to the GB electricity grid.

The position demands strong experience in onshore cable delivery, ideally within HVAC and/or HVDC systems, and a solid understanding of CDM regulations and NEC contract frameworks.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-profile project involving landfall coordination, underground cable installation, and subsea cable interface management. As SSEN Transmission continues to expand its offshore and onshore portfolio, this role offers excellent career development prospects within a forward-thinking organisation.

You will
  • Lead the safe and compliant delivery of the Onshore Cables Package 220kV Transmission Link for Orkney, ensuring alignment with CDM 2015 regulations and SSEN’s Safety Management Systems.
  • Manage project execution in line with approved plans, delivering to cost, schedule, and quality targets.

  • Ensure adherence to SSE’s Large Capital Projects (LCP) governance and best practices.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence.
You have
  • Demonstrable experience in onshore cable delivery projects, ideally within the transmission, construction, or energy sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM regulations and NEC3/NEC4 contract management.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and deliver complex packages exceeding £10m in value.
  • Engineering, construction, or project management qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • Excellent planning, cost control, and stakeholder management skills.

Onsite presence is expected during execution phases for 3 days every 2nd week, so a driving licence is required.
