Job description

  • Location: Hybrid with onsite working at our state of the art labs in Bristol, UK for 4 days per week.
  • Start Date: July/August 2025.
  • Eligibility: Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK to apply for this role. GenomeKey is not able to offer visa sponsorship.

About Us

GenomeKey is a Bristol based biotech startup developing a next-generation diagnostic device for bloodstream infections, using machine learning and DNA sequencing.

Role

We’re looking for a skilled and organised project manager with a background in biotechnology, life sciences, or medical devices.

Responsibilities

As an integral part of our team, you will work across key strategic and technical projects to ensure efficient delivery, clear communication, and strong execution. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee and coordinate cross-functional project teams, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, and risk registers to monitor progress and proactively manage risks.
  • Track and communicate project performance, status, and key decisions to stakeholders and Leadership.
  • Facilitate project meetings, updates, grant project and governance reviews to drive effective decision-making and alignment.
  • Manage project resources and budgets in collaboration with Finance and team leads, including resource forecasting and scenario planning.
  • Identify and resolve project issues or roadblocks, escalating where necessary to maintain momentum.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Promote project management best practices and work with Operations to foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with Science, Lab, Engineering, Computer Science and Operations Teams to streamline workflows and deliverables.
  • Monitor and adjust resource utilisation as needed to meet evolving project goals and priorities.

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented individual who is energised by driving progress across a variety of projects. You’ll have an excellent track record of cross-functional project delivery and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications & Experience

We are open to varied backgrounds for this role but expect candidates to meet most of the following skills and experiences:

Essential

  • 5+ years of project management experience in biotechnology or life sciences industry.
  • Scientific and technical literacy, with the ability to engage with our technical teams.
  • Good understanding of product development processes in regulated environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements.
  • Highly organised with brilliant attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, cross-functional setting.
  • Ability to use various project management software packages

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field e.g. Biology, Engineering etc.
  • Formal project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, or equivalent).
  • Experience working in a diagnostics or medical device company at a comparable stage of growth to GenomeKey.
  • Familiarity with reporting requirements for grant-funded projects.
  • Understanding of strategic execution frameworks (e.g., OKRs) and how project management supports alignment and delivery across company goals.
