Job summary

Imperial College London’s Electrochemical Science and Engineering (ESE) Group seeks a Project Manager to support delivery and growth of a dynamic research portfolio. You will oversee pre- and post-award financial management, coordinate stakeholder engagement with academic, industrial and funding networks, and help ensure research activities meet collaborator needs.

The role contributes to the group’s operational management, helping sustain Imperial as a leading centre for electrochemical science

Qualifications

  • Experience in project and/or programme management in a research (or similar) environment.
  • Ability to discuss engineering topics with experts is beneficial.
  • Strong communication and leadership to deliver outputs.
  • Demonstrable financial management ability.

  • Manage a diverse portfolio of research projects, overseeing delivery, finances and operations.
  • Collaborate with researchers, collaborators and professional services to deliver outputs and promote activities.
  • Lead engagement with industry, academic and funding partners to build collaborations.

The Electrochemical Science and Engineering (ESE) Group at Imperial College London is a world-leading, multidisciplinary research team working at the forefront of electrochemical device innovation for automotive and stationary power applications. Bringing together more than 70 researchers and professionals across mechanical, design, chemical and physical engineering disciplines, the group addresses some of the most pressing challenges in clean energy and sustainable technology.

Our research spans a broad portfolio ofcutting-edgetechnologies, including lithium-ion, lithium-sulfur, sodium-ion and lithium-metal batteries, redox flow cells, PEM fuel cells, supercapacitors, advanced 3D imaging and tomography, techno-economic analysis, and additive manufacturing. A major focus of our work is improving battery performance and accelerating the deployment of technologies that support the transition to a low-carbon future through close collaboration with academic institutions, industry partners, researchcouncilsand the Faraday Institution.

We are seeking a Project Manager to play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery and growth of this dynamic research portfolio. The successful candidate will oversee pre- and post-awardfinancial management, leadstakeholderand partnership engagement across our academic,industrialand funding networks, and help ensure that research activities are delivered effectively and aligned with collaborator needs. The role will also contribute to the wider operational management of the ESE Group, supporting its continued success as a leading centre for electrochemical science and engineering research.

What you would be doing
  • You will manage a diverse portfolio of research projects, overseeing project delivery,financesand operational activities.
  • Working closely with researchers,collaboratorsand professional services teams, you will ensure projects are delivered successfully, resources are effectively managed, compliance requirements are met, and the group’s activities and achievements are promoted.
  • You will lead engagement with industry, academic and funding partners, building strong collaborative relationships and supporting the development of new opportunities.
  • Working closely with researchers and stakeholders, you will coordinate funding applications, manage reporting and communications, support intellectual property processes, and promote the impact and visibility of the Group’s research and achievements.
What we are looking for
  • You haveexperience in project and/or programme management in a research (or similar) environment.
  • Youhave an understanding ofengineering enough to hold a conversation with experts. A specific understanding of energy technologies would be a benefit.
  • You are a good communicator who can lead and manage individuals to ensure the successful delivery of outputs.
  • You have demonstrablefinancial managementability.
  • Y ou have experience of customer engagement, including presenting project outputs to external stakeholders.

Further information

This position is fixedterm, andis expected to run for up to24monthsin the first instance, and may be extended subject to successful research bids.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role. Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
