The Role: Project Manager - M&G Life

Location: Reading or London

6 month Fixed Term Contract which may be extended

Reporting to the Senior Project Delivery Lead, and within the Life Operations Change team, the Project Manager role will be responsible for supporting a number of key business stakeholders to deliver on their objectives and ambitions. Working closely with Corporate Risk Solutions (CRS) business teams you will have end to end responsibility to ensure outcomes are delivered within the agreed parameters, including co-ordination with teams across the wider M&G plc firm (such as Finance, Investments, IT & Risk) and external service providers.

Key Responsibilities for this role:

  • To work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance business and change controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customer outcomes and an ultimate reduction in M&G’s operational risk.
  • Take end to end responsibility for the delivery of projects or linked business events, ensuring clear agreement on the required outcomes and realisation of the benefits as defined in the business case or other supporting documentation.
  • Shape the project/business event to drive optimum delivery of outcomes, including planning at the level appropriate to the complexity of the underlying business need, and structuring and sequencing an appropriate set of workstreams and related activities.
  • Establish and co-ordinate change activities across CRS including engaging & monitoring of all 3rd party deliveries and dependencies.
  • Be the point of escalation and contact to assist with resolution of significant issues and risks that threaten delivery target timelines.
  • Ensure alignment to the M&G plc Change Handbook methodology and guidelines.
  • Monitor and review all project delivery and economics, including deliverable production, costs, staffing requirements and resources.
  • Ensure appropriate and effective communication, monitoring, quality assurance and governance arrangements in place, supported by appropriate reporting and traceability.
  • Articulate and manage the overall risk exposure, driving a common understanding amongst stakeholders and effecting appropriate trade-offs to reduce risk exposure and increase confidence in the outcomes and agreed timelines.
  • Manage stakeholders and be proactive in communication to ensure direction, scope and progress of the related activities in the plan is understood and transparent.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Must have: Solid expertise of project methodologies, planning processes and change management techniques.
  • Must have: Solid expertise of risk management principles and ability to manage and control their impacts on projects.
  • Must have: Experience of working in fast paced agile and flexible environments.
  • Must have: Experience of managing and working in cross functional teams (including external partners) to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Must have: Experience of monitoring and reporting in a project environment.
  • Must have: Experience of successful delivery through a full waterfall project lifecycle.
  • Must have: Experience of managing a multi-disciplined team and complex delivery structures.
  • Must have: Experience of managing stakeholders across a range of business areas and different levels of complexity and seniority.
  • Must have: Experience of project governance and producing quality project documentation to meet internal governance standards.
  • Highly desirable: Working knowledge of life and pensions products, markets and competitors.
  • Highly desirable: Working knowledge of financial services regulation and legislation frameworks.
  • Highly desirable: Understanding of Corporate Pensions and the Bulk Purchase Annuity market and associated business functions to ensure meaningful discussions with key business stakeholders.
