Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced and capable Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of engineering and infrastructure projects within the water, wastewater, and environmental sectors. You will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle from planning and procurement through to construction and commissioning ensuring quality, safety, and client satisfaction at every stage.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Lead the planning and delivery of multiple concurrent projects, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and to specification.

  • Prepare and maintain project programmes, cost forecasts, and resource plans.

  • Chair progress meetings and produce regular client reports.

  • Coordinate internal design, engineering, and site teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Commercial & Contract Management

  • Manage contracts (including NEC-based) and ensure variations, change control, and risk are proactively handled.

  • Monitor and manage project budgets, forecasts, and invoicing in collaboration with the commercial team.

  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures.

  • Oversee subcontractor performance and resolve disputes or delivery issues as they arise.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as the primary point of contact throughout project delivery.

  • Facilitate effective communication between clients, internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.

  • Represent Afeco at project meetings, site visits, and industry events as needed.

HSEQ Compliance & Delivery

  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all projects comply with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards.

  • Review and approve RAMS, ensure permits are in place, and support on-site safety audits.

  • Ensure handover documentation, commissioning results, and as-built records are delivered accurately and on time.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Environmental Science, or Project Management

  • Minimum 5 years experience managing engineering or infrastructure projects

  • Strong understanding of project management principles and contract administration (NEC, JCT, etc.)

  • Proven experience in budget control, risk management, and stakeholder engagement

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • APM, Prince2, or equivalent project management certification

  • Experience within the water, environmental, or utilities sector

  • CDM and HSEQ training or certification (e.g., SMSTS, IOSH Managing Safely)

  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting or carbon measurement tools
