The Opportunity

The Project Manager role is a key delivery position, reporting to a Sub-Portfolio Manager within the Defence BU and requires DV clearance.

In line with the APM definition for an Intermediate Project Manager, a Roke Project Manager confidently leads one or more projects with limited complexity. This role requires substantial experience working with the UK Ministry of Defence, preferably leading framework or product projects.

The ideal candidate is accustomed to engaging with different organizational levels and has experience in strategic programme and project management, including setting direction and securing senior buy-in to achieve successful customer outcomes.

You will succeed by employing modern, effective Project Management techniques and actively developing your professional and personal skills.

Primary Job Purpose

  • Execute contracts fully regarding schedule, cost, and quality
  • Manage external Customers, Subcontractors, Partners, and internal Business Functions, balancing stakeholder needs
  • Build trusted relationships, creating value for both customer and Roke
  • Plan and mobilize contracts successfully
  • Identify, prioritize, and mitigate risks & issues related to bidding & delivery
  • Bid confidently, considering schedule, cost, and quality factors
  • Report and forecast accurately against KPIs
  • Continuously improve delivery capabilities alongside bids & contracts
  • Ensure all projects in your portfolio are delivered on time, within scope, and budget, acting as Project Manager on specific projects as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and actively manage project teams
  • Deliver bids and contracts to target schedule, cost, and quality, fully understanding and executing the governing contract (OTIF)
  • Identify, prioritize, and manage risks & issues, escalating appropriately
  • Provide timely, accurate forecasts and project reports, managing stakeholder expectations
  • Ensure all project artefacts are well-controlled and meet high standards, including plans, estimates, specifications, design documents, software, test plans & results, manufacturing data, etc.

Person Specification & Education

  • Relevant degree and/or experience required

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Project Managers should be APM PMQ qualified or working towards it
  • Experience in product development or research & consultancy
  • Experience delivering IT projects using agile methods
  • Knowledge of Scrum
  • Experience with JIRA is desirable
