Job description

Our client, a main contractor, requires an experienced Project Manager for a permanent position based at their head office, covering sites in South / West Wales.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the control of contracts, ensuring health, safety, environmental, and quality compliance is maintained, the company's procedures followed, and objectives fulfilled to complete a contract on time and within budget. At all times, the post holder is the first point of contact for members of the public, site managers, and sub-contractors.

Responsibilities:

  1. Planning projects and ensuring they are programmed to a level of detail necessary for the site team to deliver the scheme without delays.
  2. Ensuring procurement and reconciliation of materials are carried out in accordance with company procedures to achieve best value and prevent delays.
  3. Ensuring the site teams' compliance with company commercial policies and procedures.
  4. Attending tender handover meetings and delivering pre-start meetings to the site team.
  5. Ensuring a commercial plan and end-of-life forecast are in place and monitored monthly for the successful commercial delivery of the project.
  6. Producing and analyzing progress reports and sharing this information with the Project QS.
  7. Ensuring correct commercial engagement of sub-contractors.
  8. Implementing the risk management process, reviewing risk registers, and checking risk controls.
  9. Reviewing the CVRs monthly with the project teams and implementing necessary actions.
  10. Completing and distributing the contract initiation/completion forms for each project.
  11. Ensuring weekly review of progress, budget resources, and forward planning are carried out, with look-ahead programmes in place.
  12. Chairing and attending internal and external meetings, ensuring accurate records of discussions and actions are produced.
  13. Ensuring timely management of both temporary and permanent design to meet each project's requirements.

Required Experience & Qualifications / Competencies:

  • Extensive experience managing projects within a construction contracting environment.
  • Good working knowledge of contract conditions, CDM regulations, risk management, programme, and cost control including forecasting, actual costs, and value reporting.
  • Experience in MS Project.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts, including early warning and compensation event mechanisms.
  • HNC / HND / Degree level (or equivalent).
  • SMSTS certification.
  • Temporary works coordinator certification.
  • Appropriate CSCS card.
  • Strong people management skills with the ability to influence and mentor.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients and all levels of staff.
  • Problem-solving skills and analytical thinking.
  • IT competence.
