Alexander Associates is proud to be representing a globally recognised renewable energy consultancy with a strong international presence, on the search for a talented and commercially minded Project Manager / Developer with experience in M&A and Financial Due Diligence, particularly within Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

With active projects across multiple continents, this company has built a reputation for delivering innovative, scalable renewable energy solutions in both established and emerging markets. They are passionate about decarbonisation and are known for fostering diverse, high-performing teams around the globe.

This strategic hire will sit at the intersection of project development, commercial strategy, and transaction execution, contributing to both advisory assignments and in-house development initiatives. The successful candidate will play a key role in structuring projects and guiding them from early-stage development through to financial close.

Key Responsibilities

Project Development & Delivery

  • Lead or support the development of solar and BESS projects across international markets, including permitting, stakeholder engagement, and grid connection processes.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (technical, legal, and environmental) to manage risk and drive projects towards bankability.
  • Oversee progression from concept stage to financial close, and into construction where applicable.

Commercial & Transaction Support

  • Support structuring and negotiation of M&A transactions related to renewable energy projects.
  • Lead or contribute to financial due diligence processes, including review of models and risk assessment.
  • Prepare investment memos and commercial evaluations to guide client and internal investment decisions.
  • Engage with investors, developers, lenders, and contractors to ensure alignment between financial and technical deliverables.

International Collaboration

  • Work across geographically diverse project teams and clients, with particular emphasis on supporting projects in South Africa and other emerging markets.
  • Maintain clear communication across multiple time zones and cultural contexts.

Key Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Proven track record in renewable energy project development, ideally with a focus on solar PV and/or battery storage.
  • Strong experience in M&A, project finance, or financial due diligence within the clean energy sector.
  • Understanding of energy project lifecycles and commercial drivers from development through construction.
  • Familiarity with African, emerging, or frontier markets is advantageous.
  • Commercially astute with the ability to integrate technical and financial perspectives.
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • Experience developing and analysing financial models for energy projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organised, self-driven, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, international environment.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel internationally, particularly to South Africa, as required.
