Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a Project Manager to lead the Civil Engineering package of offshore transmission projects in the North of Scotland. You will manage design development, consents, procurement, construction delivery, testing and handover for underground cabling and enabling works, reporting to the Senior Project Manager.

Based from Scotland with 50% office presence in Inverness, Aberdeen or Perth, you will spend the majority on site to support delivery, ensuring CDM compliance, safety,

Qualifications

• Experience delivering civil engineering or linear infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of cable route construction methods (trenching, ducting, HDD/boring, joint bays, reinstatement).
• Knowledge of UK CDM Regulations and safe project delivery.
• Experience administering NEC3 contracts, including change control and governance.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management; chartership desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead underground cable civil engineering package delivery; ensure scope/ interfaces/objectives defined and met.
• Manage design development, consents, procurement, construction delivery, testing/commissioning support and handover.
• Coordinate design, consents and stakeholder interfaces across internal/external teams.

Job description

Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office – Inverness, Aberdeen, Perth - as the project is based in the North West of Scotland, Inverness would be preferable. The successful candidate will be expected to spend the majority of their time on site to support the delivery of the project.

Salary: £51,600 - £77,400 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available.

The role

As a Project Manager within the SSEN Transmission (SSENT) Offshore team, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of large-scale offshore transmission projects across the north of Scotland. This role is within the Western Isles HVDC Link Project which will provide a new subsea cable connecting renewable power and support the country's drive to a secure and net zero energy future.

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Project Manager will be responsible for the safe, timely and cost-effective delivery of the Civil Engineering package for offshore electrical infrastructure, with a primary focus on underground cabling and associated enabling works. This includes the end-to-end management of design development, consents and stakeholder interfaces, procurement, construction delivery, testing/commissioning support, and close-out/hand-over in line with SSEN Offshore Delivery governance, HSE expectations, and quality standards. The role coordinates activities across internal disciplines (engineering, consents, safety, health and wellbeing, commercial, programme controls, land and stakeholder teams) and external partners (principal contractors, cable installers, utility providers, local authorities and landowners).

You will

• Lead the delivery of underground cable civil engineering packages, ensuring scope, interfaces and project objectives are clearly defined and achieved.
• Drive the highest standards of health, safety and compliance, ensuring all works are delivered in line with CDM requirements, legislation and SSEN policies.
• Manage programme, risk and commercial performance, including schedules, budgets, forecasts, change control and cost reporting.
• Oversee contractor, consultant and supplier performance, supporting procurement activities and ensuring quality, value and successful project delivery.
• Coordinate design, consents and stakeholder interfaces, proactively managing risks and opportunities to optimise safety, efficiency and project outcomes.

You have

• Proven experience delivering civil engineering or linear infrastructure projects, ideally involving underground HV/EHV cable routes.
• Strong understanding of cable route construction methods, including trenching, ducting, HDD/boring, joint bays and reinstatement works.
• Knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations, with experience managing safe project delivery.
• Experience administering NEC3 (or similar) contracts, including commercial management, change control and project governance.
• Excellent stakeholder management, planning and risk management skills, supported by a degree (or equivalent experience) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline. Professional membership or chartership is desirable.
