Project Manager - (Industrial Wastewater Treatment Projects)
The Role:
The Project Manager will have full responsibility for the safe, commercial, technical and programme delivery of the Arla Taw Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Project from contract award through commissioning, handover and defects period.
The main duties and responsibilities of the Project Manager are outlined as follows:
Project Delivery:
- Lead the delivery of the Arla Taw Valley WWTP Project from mobilisation through to successful completion.
- Direct and coordinate the activities of design, procurement, construction, MEICA installation and commissioning teams.
- Ensure project objectives, milestones and contractual deliverables are achieved.
- Manage project interfaces between Glanua, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and the client team.
- Provide clear leadership and direction to all project personnel.
- Establish a collaborative project culture focused on safety, quality and successful project outcomes.
- Programme Management
- Develop, maintain and manage the master project programme using Microsoft Project.
- Produce fully integrated design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover programmes.
- Monitor progress against contract milestones and key performance indicators.
- Lead weekly and monthly programme reviews with the project team and client.
- Identify programme risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Develop recovery plans where programme slippage occurs.
- Ensure programme reporting accurately reflects project status and forecast completion dates.
- Manage critical path analysis and resource planning.
- The project includes extensive design, procurement, construction and commissioning activities requiring ongoing programme management and coordination across multiple disciplines.
- Commercial Management
- Hold full commercial responsibility for project performance.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts and cashflow.
- Ensure accurate cost reporting and financial control.
- Maximise project margin through proactive management of cost and opportunity.
- Identify, develop and submit variation claims and change notifications.
- Monitor subcontractor and supplier performance against budget.
- Lead contract administration activities.
- Manage applications for payment and certification processes.
- Prepare monthly commercial reviews and forecast reports.
- Support dispute avoidance and resolution where required.
- Commercial and contractual management are key project requirements requiring strong focus on payment mechanisms, cost control and contractual obligations
Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams across Civil, Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation and Commissioning functions.
- Manage Project Engineers, Site Managers, Construction Managers, Commissioning Engineers and subcontractors.
- Establish project objectives and performance expectations.
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate internal resources to maintain project performance and programme adherence.
- Conduct regular progress and coordination meetings.
MEICA Management:
- Oversee the delivery of all MEICA activities.
- Manage equipment procurement, factory acceptance testing and supplier coordination.
- Ensure integration between process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and automation systems.
- Coordinate commissioning strategies and operational readiness planning.
- Drive successful handover to the client through structured testing and commissioning processes.
- Ensure compliance with client specifications and approved technical standards.
Client & Stakeholder Management:
- Act as primary point of contact for Arla Foods.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships throughout project delivery.
- Lead project review meetings with client stakeholders.
- Coordinate communication with regulators, consultants, suppliers and local stakeholders.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and project interfaces.
- Ensure all client actions and commitments are tracked and closed out.
- Promote Glanua's reputation for excellence and collaborative delivery.
Reporting:
- Prepare and issue weekly and monthly project reports.
- Deliver monthly project reviews to senior management.
- Report on safety, programme, commercial, procurement and risk performance.
- Present forecast outcomes and recovery plans where required.
- Maintain accurate project records and reporting systems.
- Provide board-level summaries when required
- HSQE Responsibilities:
- Take overall responsibility for project Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental performance.
- Ensure compliance with Glanua management systems and client requirements.
- Lead project safety culture and behavioural safety initiatives.
- Ensure implementation of Construction Phase Plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
- Chair regular HSQE review meetings.
- Ensure site audits, inspections and corrective actions are completed.
- Drive a zero-harm culture across all project activities.
- Ensure environmental compliance and protection of surrounding operations.
- Lead incident investigations and close-out actions.
- Promote quality assurance throughout design, procurement, installation and commissioning phases.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the Project Manager are outlined as follows:
- Minimum of 8 years' experience working in a similar role, preferably in the water and wastewater industry.
- Extensive working knowledge of CDM regulations
- Experienced in the design, construction, commissioning and process proving of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (MEICA) systems preferable.
- Minimum of a Level 8 Honours Degree in a relevant Engineering Qualification.
- Ability to manage multi-disciplinary construction teams in a pressurised environment during project delivery.
- Ability to engage with the customer as well as suppliers and sub-contractors in financial negotiations and final account agreements.
- Good working knowledge of programme management software such as Microsoft Project and Primavera P6. Ability to prepare baseline programmes and programme updates.
- Ability to use own initiative, problem solve and adjust as issues arise during project delivery.
- Excellent working knowledge of MS packages such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Project.
- Strong communication skills with a high level of motivation.
- Full Driving License.
