Role Profile: Project Manager

Reporting to: Head of Business Planning

Location: Manchester (hybrid, with occasional UK travel)

Fixed term: Until December 2027

Salary: Up to £45,000 dependent on experience

About You

Ready to make an impact? British Cycling is seeking a Project Manager to oversee and guide high- priority projects that are critical to our modernisation. You'll play a central role in driving change, fostering innovation, and bringing our major events vision to life. This means you'll be responsible for project design, ruthless prioritisation, and navigating complex interdependencies and risks. Your focus will be on enabling our talented internal teams and subject matter experts to deliver results and engage effectively with stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities:

Project & Programme Leadership

  • Defines and aligns project scope and outcomes with long-term strategic goals.
  • Develops and manages comprehensive plans (milestones, resources, budgets and outcomes) and maintains documentation and audit trails
  • Designs and facilitates purposeful meetings
  • Monitors progress, risks, and critical issues, providing strategic oversight and reports to senior leadership.

Project Execution

  • Manages interdependencies and defines priorities across the project portfolio within the broader organisational context.
  • Establishes and maintains robust project governance frameworks.
  • Provides expert project management guidance, enabling effective execution by internal teams.
  • Advises on consultation strategies to ensure appropriate stakeholder input (engagement led by others).
  • Manages project closure, including handover, lessons learned, and legacy planning.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

Experience

  • Proven track record as a Senior Project or Programme Manager, delivering complex, high-impact projects
  • Demonstrable experience in managing project portfolios with significant interdependencies and strategic importance.
  • Familiarity with product development methodologies, a customer and data first approach, and the benefits of digital transformation.

Skills

  • Ability to think strategically and translate complex problems into optimal, structured delivery approaches, aligning short-term actions with long-term objectives.
  • Capability to chair meetings as required, and otherwise support efficient, outcome-based meetings schedules
  • Expert capability in managing interdependencies and defining priorities across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Highly organised, comfortable and effective in fast-paced, evolving environments, able to balance multiple demands simultaneously, and take ownership and accountability for tasks and decisions as appropriate
  • Analytical, pragmatic, and decisive in identifying and resolving complex challenges
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for concise, senior-level reporting and ability to influence at all levels.
  • Understanding of the needs of internal and external stakeholders and how to drive accountability and execute the project through a RACI approach
  • Proficient in a range of modern tools and technologies that support efficient and effective ways of working and enables collaboration
  • Highly skilled at engaging and managing multiple internal and external stakeholders
