Job summary

NEOS Engineering is seeking an experienced Rail Project Manager to run individual rail projects from our Manchester office. You will own delivery, budgets and customer satisfaction, and build a pipeline of work with clients.

The role requires a strong electrical background, 5+ years in rail project management, and the ability to lead a team while ensuring safety and contractual compliance. Salary is £50,000-£60,000 with a company car/allowance and discretionary bonus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience managing rail projects.
• Demonstrable experience of developing and managing a team.
• Detailed knowledge of HV/LV electrical engineering services industry and its markets.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels.
• A commercial mindset, comfortable with budgets, contracts and tendering.
• Flexibility around project requirements, including some overtime when needed.
• IOSH or SMSTS (H&S for Managers).
• A higher qualification in Electrical Engineering would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage individual rail projects, developing and delivering budgets in line with forecasts and expectations.
• Define project scope and objectives with all relevant stakeholders, ensuring technical feasibility and resource allocation.
• Manage projects, processes and procedures to achieve right first time and customer satisfaction.
• Read, interpret and implement contracts, with support from the management and commercial teams.
• Seek out and develop new and existing rail opportunities, generating quotations and taking them through to tender.
• Set clear, measurable goals to build a culture of performance linked to the overall strategy.
• Manage costs and improve efficiency to increase profit centre performance and profitability.
• Deliver operations in line with company HV and LV Safety Rules, and maintain health and safety standards in line with company policy and legislation.
• Work on installations up to 11kV.
• Visit projects as and when required, while based in the Manchester office.

This is a role with real ownership. You’ll be responsible for delivery, budgets and customer satisfaction, and for building a pipeline of work through new and existing clients.

The Candidate

We’re looking for a customer-focused Rail Project Manager with a strong electrical background and the people skills to lead, motivate and develop a team.

You’ll ideally have:

• 5+ years’ experience managing rail projects.
• Demonstrable experience of developing and managing a team.
• Detailed knowledge of the HV/LV electrical engineering services industry and its markets.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels.
• A commercial mindset, comfortable with budgets, contracts and tendering.
• Flexibility around project requirements, including some overtime when needed.
• NVQ Level 3 or above in Electrical Engineering.

Previous experience winning and developing rail clients would be particularly useful.
