Job description

About the Opportunity

The announcement of a planned 20-year lifetime extension for Sizewell B is much more than an energy story. It is a significant investment in people, skills, local communities and the UK's long-term energy resilience. Sizewell B will continue generating electricity until 2055, extending its original operating life by two decades. For Suffolk and the wider East of England, this represents a major opportunity to build on an already strong nuclear legacy while creating lasting economic and social value for generations to come.

Since entering service in 1995, Sizewell B has been one of the UK's most reliable sources of low carbon electricity. Today, the station generates enough power for around 2.5 million homes.

At a time when energy security remains a national priority, extending the life of an existing nuclear plant makes strategic sense. Nuclear generation provides stable, around-the-clock electricity regardless of weather conditions, complementing the growing contribution from renewable energy sources.

To support this significant project Amentum are recruiting for a number of experienced Project Manager to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services team supporting our key client EDF Energy Nuclear Generation with their nuclear fleet in the UK.

These are key role's within our project and engineering portfolio which is spread across our UK network at all UK sites and stations. You will be supported and mentored by experienced project engineering management professionals within the business and given the training and opportunities you need to develop and expand your project engineering management and leadership skills with larger and more complex projects.

You will be part of a large client-led team at Sizewell B Power Station and will be accountable to the client Project Manager, Programme Manager and/or Construction Manager. Flexible working arrangements between office and home may be possible, however the role will predominantly be based at the Power Station.

This role has no direct reports.
  • The role will be based at the EDF Sizewell B Power Station and will require occasional business travel to other UK sites/stations. In this role you will report to the business Operations Manager but be accountable for project delivery directly to the client.
  • Everyone working in our team will have a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills are a must with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks and be results-focused tempered with a team-centred approach.
Qualification, Skills & Experience
  • Degree educated, ideally in engineering or a related subject, with preferred Chartership.
  • APMP formal project management qualification or equivalent and versed in modern project management techniques within complex, multi-functional organisations; have a thorough understanding and knowledge of engineering, design, procurement, safety case, construction and iinstallation / commissioning management and commercial contracting.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of Safety Cases including how they are developed and implemented, relevant Health and Safety and Environment legislation including CDM and the actions required to achieve compliance.
  • Good understanding of the needs of quality and how quality is assured and controlled along with relevant experience of commercial, contractual, and financial project drivers.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects throughout the full project lifecycle, ideally across a range of complex multi-discipline projects and environments, and management of an integrated project team including staff, agency and assigned functional support.
  • Experience of estimating, cost control, planning and commercial awareness including the preparation of business cases and sanction/ funding papers.
