Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Project Manager to lead initiation activities and manage a portfolio of capital projects aligned with the site’s strategic objectives. The role focuses on Engineering, Facilities, operational efficiency improvements, and the evaluation and implementation of new technologies that support customer and business requirements.

Qualifications

  • Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Prince2 Agile, Project Management qualification, or equivalent preferred.
  • Membership of a recognized Project Management organization (e.g., APM) preferred.
  • Strong project management experience delivering multiple complex engineering and facilities projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project initiation activities, ensuring alignment with site strategy and business objectives.
  • Develop Annual Operating Plan (AOP) submissions to meet future site requirements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to identify facility, process, and system improvement opportunities and generate prefunding requests where required.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across all business functions and establish effective relationships with Senior Leadership Team members.
  • Evaluate project viability, including financial justification and business case development.
  • Identify and quantify business benefits resulting from project investments.
  • Develop Capital Expenditure Requests (CERs) and supporting documentation to enable timely project approval and execution.
  • Manage equipment selection, specification development, procurement, and implementation of pharmaceutical packaging and engineering systems.
  • Provide technical expertise on both existing and emerging engineering technologies.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans covering deliverables, timelines, resources, responsibilities, risks, and expected benefits.
  • Perform technical evaluations and assessments to support equipment and process selection.
  • Support benchmarking activities and best-practice sharing across Thermo Fisher Scientific sites globally.
  • Deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to defined quality standards.
  • Support the development of technical documentation, including qualification protocols, specifications, user requirements, validation documentation, and regulatory submissions.
  • Act as SME for new technologies and provide technical support to Operational Engineering and Facilities teams.

Job description

Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards, Cleanroom: no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair etc... allowed, Office, As Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading project initiation activities and managing a portfolio of capital projects aligned to the site's strategic objectives. The role focuses on Engineering, Facilities, operational efficiency improvements, and the evaluation and implementation of new technologies that support customer and business requirements. Working closely with the CAPEX Project Management Team, project sponsors, and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will provide engineering and project management expertise to support the development, justification, planning, and execution of capital investment initiatives.

  • Lead project initiation activities, ensuring alignment with site strategy and business objectives.

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for new technologies and provide technical support to Operational Engineering and Facilities teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and business performance.
  • Decision Making & Financial Authority:
  • Justification, prioritization, and recommendation of capital investment proposals.
  • Evaluation and recommendation of operational and working practice changes associated with project implementation.
  • Development and management of project budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Assessment of project risks, benefits, and return on investment. Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Prince2 Agile, Project Management qualification, or equivalent preferred.
  • Membership of a recognized Project Management organization (e.g., APM) preferred.
  • Strong project management experience delivering multiple complex engineering and facilities projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leaders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and project management tools.
  • Experience preparing business cases, capital expenditure requests, and financial justifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of equipment qualification, validation, and regulatory documentation requirements.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives., Experience working within GMP-regulated pharmaceutical or life sciences environments.
  • Background in Engineering and/or Facilities management within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven track record of delivering engineering and capital projects on time and within budget.
  • Knowledge of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations.
  • Experience using root cause analysis methodologies and Lean manufacturing tools.
  • Experience of generating risk assessments (FMEA)
  • Strong interpersonal effectiveness and ability to build productive working relationships.
  • Self-directed, proactive, and goal-oriented approach to work.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
