The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to deliver MECIA projects on long-term framework across multiple wastewater treatment plants.

Based at our established Grangemouth office with a requirement to travel to our clients’ and partners’ locations across the UK.

Remuneration & Benefits

Excellent salary package on offer: £55,000 per annum + £5,100 car allowance and package.

The role

As the Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading the management of projects within the Technology SBU, coordinating multiple disciplines (LV Assemblies, Systems Integration, Telemetry, Electrical, Service, Instrumentation & Control) in accordance with the company’s procedures.

This role will be based in Grangemouth - Hybrid working.

Dimensions

Manage multiple projects ranging from £10k to around £15m. The portfolio typically includes about 15 projects, from off-site build and installation of LV assemblies to multi-year migration and electrical installations.

Organisation

  • You will report to a Delivery Manager.
  • You will engage with Project Coordinators, Engineers, Planners, Quantity Surveyors, Buyers, and liaise with other Project Managers, Key Account Managers, and internal staff and clients to execute projects effectively.
  • You will collaborate with other BGEN Ltd SBUs to deliver group opportunity projects.
  • You will work on MEICA contracts/projects involving mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation systems.
  • You may mentor junior staff, Project Coordinators, or Administrators.

Your duties and responsibilities will include

Project Delivery

  • Arranging project handover from Sales and establishing the project team.
  • Working with Resource Leads for resource planning.
  • Creating project programmes, schedules, and documentation.
  • Communicating project scope and delivery timelines with stakeholders and clients.
  • Identifying and communicating issues and risks, and recording learnings for operational improvements.
  • Maintaining up-to-date records on project progress across design, procurement, manufacture, testing, installation, and commissioning.
  • Ensuring engineering design, procurement, manufacturing, and installation resources align with scope and schedule.
  • Regular communication with design, manufacturing, and site teams to ensure project progress.
  • Monitoring commercial performance, maintaining accurate cost forecasts, and addressing threats to margins.
  • Managing scope changes and communicating impacts to clients.
  • Creating and issuing contract notices like Early Warnings, Compensation Events, or variations.
  • Adhering to quality procedures and health & safety standards.
  • Supporting routine administrative tasks with Project Coordinators or Administrators.
  • Acting as the main client contact and escalating significant issues.

Commercial

  • Maintaining current commercial data, monitoring project costs, and forecasting.
  • Participating in management reviews and ensuring contractual obligations are met.
  • Ensuring timely applications and invoices.
  • Escalating commercial issues and supporting new project bids.

Health and Safety

  • Fulfilling CDM Principal Contractor and Designer responsibilities.
  • Developing health and safety documentation.
  • Ensuring risk assessments and method statements are prepared and approved.
  • Instructing delivery personnel on site requirements.
  • Assigning responsible persons for site activities and ensuring compliance with permits.
  • Following daily and weekly safety procedures, including briefings and inspections.
  • Escalating safety issues promptly.
  • Reviewing delivery progress on client sites and ensuring sign-offs.
  • Conducting periodic safety inspections.

Qualifications and experience

  • ONC/HNC/Degree in electrical or control engineering or related discipline.
  • High commercial awareness.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO9001).
  • Experience with standard form contracts, especially NEC4.
  • Strong education in English and grammar.
  • Project management skills; certifications like AFM, APM, Prince 2 are desirable.
  • SSSTS/SMSTS and CDM principal contractor qualifications or experience.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing engineering projects of similar scale and industry.

Risks include noise, slips, trips, falls, mechanical hazards, extreme temperatures, pressurized equipment, radiation, chemicals, biological hazards, explosive atmospheres, working at heights, and confined spaces during maintenance and repair.
