National Highways is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead a portfolio of projects within the RIS3 programme. The role involves coordinating external contractors, governance, and safety compliance across our national offices and sites around the UK.

You will oversee multiple projects, ensuring delivery on time, to cost and within scope, while maintaining strong stakeholder engagement and reporting on benefits realization. Travel to UK sites is required.

The National Highways Change Delivery Team has been established to assist the company in meeting the financial and performance challenges that the RIS3 settlement will bring, as well as developing new capabilities and ways of working to ensure that NH is fit to face any future challenges.

We are working on an exciting improvement programme and have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced project manager to join the team. We are a customer centric organisation and welcome cross sector applications. You will have experience in stakeholder management, problem solving and delivering projects on time, to cost and within scope.

As a Project Manager, you will play a vital role in planning and managing the successful delivery of a portfolio of projects within our 5-year road investment strategy 3 (RIS3) programme. You will oversee the performance of multiple projects, manage external contractors and consultants, ensuring the highest standards of governance, quality assurance, health and safety.

This role is a full time, permanent position that can be based at any of our national offices (Bedford, Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter, Guildford, Leeds, Manchester) and travel will be required to other UK sites.

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure full mutual understanding of the projects' strategic and delivery objectives, to report on and review project performance, and to agree solutions that resolve complex risks and issues.
  • Lead and manage project team resources to deliver project outcomes to time, cost and quality, providing role clarity, ensuring effective collaboration, development, motivation and performance, including managing performance of delivery partners as appropriate.
  • Design, agree and implement project plans, to ensure that all activities are appropriately organised to deliver project objectives, are appropriately resourced to deliver the required outcomes and evaluate dependencies and constraints.
  • Design and agree key project milestones, scope acceptable risks and priorities, ensuring that appropriate governance is in place to achieve successful delivery including the clarification of roles and responsibilities within the project delivery team.
  • Drive the identification and delivery of benefits and efficiencies within their project environment. Share and collaborate in disseminating their learning.
