Job summary

National Highways is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join the Change Delivery Team. You will oversee a portfolio of projects within our RIS3 programme, coordinating with external contractors and internal stakeholders to deliver on time, to budget and within scope.

The role demands strong stakeholder management, problem solving, mentoring and resilience to drive high-profile initiatives in a customer-centric organisation.

Qualifications

  • Experience of managing teams to the development and delivery of complex, medium/high risk or high profile projects.
  • Experience in managing complex relationships with multiple stakeholders and influencing outcomes.
  • Track record of managing and maintaining agreed project plans and detailed stage plans with delivery partners.
  • Experience as mentor and/or coach to develop project management talent in a complex environment.
  • High resilience to handle conflicting priorities and setbacks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to report on performance and solutions.
  • Lead the design, agreement and implementation of project plans and ensure resources align to deliver objectives.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within quality, cost and time parameters and meet health and safety standards.
  • Lead identification and evaluation of risks, issues, opportunities and dependencies, and implement solutions.
  • Manage and motivate the project management team to support performance and development.

Job description

The National Highways Change Delivery Team has been established to assist the company in meeting the financial and performance challenges that the RIS3 settlement will bring, as well as developing new capabilities and ways of working to ensure that NH is fit to face any future challenges.

We are working on an exciting improvement programme and have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced project manager to join the team. We are a customer centric organisation and welcome cross sector applications. You will have experience in stakeholder management, problem solving and delivering projects on time, to cost and within scope.

As a Project Manager, you will play a vital role in planning and managing the successful delivery of a portfolio of projects within our 5-year road investment strategy 3 (RIS3) programme. You will oversee the performance of multiple projects, manage external contractors and consultants, ensuring the highest standards of governance, quality assurance, health and safety.

Please note that this will be a 12 month secondment opportunity.

  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure full mutual understanding of the projects' strategic and delivery objectives, to report on and review project(s) performance, and to agree solutions that resolve complex issues.
  • Lead the design of, agree and implement project plans, to ensure that all activities are appropriately organised to deliver project objectives, are appropriately resourced to deliver the required outcomes, and comply with locally defined procedures.
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered within agreed parameters for quality, cost and time, ensuring that they meet intended outcomes, customer service levels, quality and health and safety standards.
  • Lead the identification and evaluation of risks, issues, opportunities, dependencies and constraints associated with the projects, escalating where appropriate. Where necessary, develop, agree and implement solutions to overcome these.
  • Management and resource identification of your team, lead and motivate the team of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers, to ensure effective performance is delivered and to support their personal development.
About you.
  • Experience of managing teams to successful development and delivery of complex, medium/high risk projects or high profile projects
  • Experience of managing complex relationships with multiple stakeholders and evidence of skills to influence relationships for positive outcomes
  • Track record of managing and maintaining agreed project plans and detailed stage plans in conjunction with delivery partners
  • Demonstrate experience as mentor and/or coach to develop project management talent, skills and competence within a complex project environment
  • High resilience, to deal constructively conflicting priorities and setbacks.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
