About the Role

Our client is seeking a seasoned Project Manager with deep experience in delivering turnkey EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) substation projects. This role involves full responsibility for project execution, financial performance, and strategic oversight from planning to final handover. You will lead cross-functional teams and drive the successful implementation of major electrical infrastructure projects across the UK.

About the Client

My client is a company that operates within the infrastructure and energy sector, delivering turnkey solutions for complex electrical substations and grid connections. While it collaborates with major industry players and supports the transition to more sustainable energy systems, its profile remains relatively low in public discourse. Despite this, my client plays a critical behind-the-scenes role in enabling reliable power delivery and integrating renewable energy into national grids around the world.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams, including project managers, engineers, and site supervisors, through all project phases, from initiation through commissioning.
  • Take ownership of full profit and loss, managing budgets, forecasting revenue, and driving commercial performance.
  • Monitor and control costs, ensuring financial targets are met while maintaining quality and compliance benchmarks.
  • Serve as the primary contact during the bidding process, supporting tender strategy and submission.
  • Guide early project activities including feasibility assessments, environmental planning, and initial engineering concepts.
  • Oversee the procurement process, including contract approvals and vendor engagement in line with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Define and execute construction delivery strategies, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and project standards.
  • Manage subcontractor relationships and ensure compliance with relevant contract formats (e.g., NEC, FIDIC), safety legislation, and construction design management (CDM) obligations.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, clients, regulatory authorities, and suppliers to align project delivery with strategic goals.
  • Track project progress and resolve any deviations from schedule or scope.
  • Act as the interface between engineering, procurement, construction, and client functions to maintain effective communication and progress.
  • Lead final project close-out, ensuring all contractual requirements are fulfilled and client satisfaction is achieved.
Required Experience
  • Proven track record managing complex EPC substation or high-voltage infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with full project lifecycle management from tendering and contract negotiation through to delivery and handover.
  • Deep understanding of financial control, P&L accountability, cost tracking, and revenue forecasting.
  • Strong background in contract administration, particularly under NEC or FIDIC frameworks.
  • In-depth understanding of CDM regulations, safety compliance, and environmental considerations.
  • Proficiency in engineering, procurement, and construction delivery planning for electrical systems.
Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar qualification is desirable.
Benefits Package
  • 25 days of annual leave plus public holidays, with an option to purchase additional days.
  • Company car allowance and comprehensive employee assistance program.
  • Life insurance coverage and a highly competitive pension scheme with up to 10% employer contribution.
  • Hybrid and flexible working opportunities under our smarter working policy.
