Job description

We have an opportunity for a Project Manager to join our team based at our manufacturing facility in Great Yarmouth. This role will provide project management for Microelectronics and Optoelectronics products within the defence sector. This will includes planning and implementing production capacity to meet increased customer order needs, driving ‘cost out’ process improvement via CI (continuous improvement) methodologies e.g LEAN, Kaizen and management of current and future component obsolescence strategies including ‘ILS’ support. In addition, the role will act as the key customer interface reporting on quarterly business reviews, weekly WIP tracking, FRACAS, delivery schedules, capacity plans, QC audits, repairs and returns.

Main responsibilities:

  • Project leadership including planning and defining scope, directing, coordinating, and reporting on complex, high visibility projects
  • Overall accountability for tracking, reporting and forecasting adherence to project baseline for schedule and budget internally and customer facing
  • Managing new product development / re-design in accordance with SCL product design process
  • Chair and present gate reviews from initial kick off to production hand over, including any necessary qualification activities
  • Act as the customer interface and support regular meetings and provide reports
  • Assist in the management of changes to the project scope, schedule, and costs using appropriate verification techniques to keep the project plan accurate, updated, and reflective of authorised project changes
  • Adherence to internal PM processes, follow Earned Value reporting as part of monthly reporting process
  • Preparation and submission of appropriate customer documentation (Project Management Plan, schedule etc) as part of deliverable data pack
  • Support bids and proposals as required, including bid management and definition of budget
  • Risk register population / scoring including defining appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Complete project optimization with a focus on inventory metrics, cost understanding, capacity planning, lead time reduction, and on-time-delivery (OTD) through projects and programs that strive to continuously improve Site operational performance
  • Ability to understand, plan and implement production processes and equipment to meet required production volumes. Work with Process Engineering Manager to identify solutions perform necessary trade-offs and perform qualification of lines and processes to meet demand.

Education/qualifications:

  • Degree qualified (BEng or similar)
  • Formal Project Management training (PRINCE2, PMI or similar)

Knowledge and experience:

  • Experience of managing projects up to £10M
  • Understanding of defence and aerospace industry including relevant standards and requirements
  • ERP tools in a project environment
  • Knowledge of working for/with Prime organisations
  • Experience of planning for production
